NO doubt. Lou didn’t say they’d win, only that they have a chance of being in the game.
I understand, but no way they will even sniff the air at that game. ND is VERY marginal, at best. Sure they got folks back, but they were not very good last year either. Very weak schedule yet they still sucked.

Only because they didn’t have to play the real #2, Miami that year. From mid-2000 until the Terry Porter call in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl, Miami would have (and did) beat everyone in their way. They blew a close one, in early September, 3000 miles from home, with a young QB. By the time November rolled around, they were playing better football than anyone in the country. It would have been a far better game than the 13-2 yawner that OU-FSU gave us.
I had almost forgotten about that. I’m trying to remember if Ken Dorsey was the Canes starting QB when they lost at Washington that year, but they wouldn’t lose again until the 03 Fiesta Bowl loss against Ohio State, I think it ended up being 34 straight victories. Probably the most dominant 3 year run in the college game, too.
Wilkinson’s best teams came during the first eleven years of his tenure. In that time, he recorded winning streaks of 31 and 47 games and went 114–10–3, a winning percentage of 90.9%. Wilkinson left Oklahoma after the 1963 season with a record of 145–29–4, 14 conference titles and 123 straight games without being shut out.
It would be a laugh riot every week watching Notre Dame play an SEC schedule.

Yes, it was Dorsey’s first road start, and only the 4th start period of his career (home starts vs. Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple in 1999 as a Freshman were the only others, with an aggregate score of 155-13, hardly pressure games). Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about those days. Dorsey was just such a class act and true leader. Not too many of them around these days.
Notre Dame could end up in the BCS Championship Game, but they don’t have the players to keep up with the likes of Florida or Texas, the two most likely teams to play in the BCS Championship Game at the end of this season. Florida 49, Notre Dame 14 would be charitable considering how much better Florida’s team is overall compared to Notre Dame.
I bear no illusions of Notre Dame winning the BCS title game. The championship does not go to the best team in the country; rather, we call them the best because they have received the award. The team that wins is the team best able to manipulate the system. Look at how few top 25 teams Florida plays. Texas plays three or four. Notre Dame only plays USC, and the play them in Notre Dame. The rest of their schedule is terrible. If the top 25 schools only played the top 25 schools, then we’d know.

Just a thought, but what is the deal with big, burly football players prancing about arm-in-arm or holding hands? It’s so “girly-man”. Ugh.

I think Holtz is also just using the old pragnoasticaor’s view of picking a team that probably won’t make it, but if they do you look like a genius. If they don’t, know one remembers that anyway, so they pick a wildcard team, so to speak.
