Here is a little weekend frivolity while I watch the Raiders 3rd preseason game. Lou Holtz seems to believe that the Irish will be in the BCS title game this year.

It's either drugs or senility.

To be fair though, Stoops and the Sooners did win the BCS National Title back in 2000.

More...SI has then #25 pre-season ranking....looking at their schedule..I think 6-5 or 5-6 is more likely...a better way to repackage Lou's comment whould be...
Which is the more likely even to occur.."ND plays in thew BCS game, or Fat Boy gets fired before the end of the season...?"

Yeah, Lou picked ND to win 12 games, and get a BCS bid. I’ll be real surprised if ND starts 4-0 (Nevada, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue), and we all know that USC will beat them even with a true freshman playing quarterback....

Maybe I misunderstood. Perhaps Lou was predicting 12 wins in the next two years....

Actually, I think he made a solid argument. Of course, it’s also a solid argument for a playoff system.

As an Alum from both Florida and Notre Dame, the talent levels are not even close. ND would likely end up dead last in the SEC.

Look at the video and listen to what Holtz is saying. The Irish have 11 men back on offense and nine back on defense. They are playing an extremely easier schedule because the teams they play are mostly in rebuilding years. BC is expected to finish last in its conference. The Irish don’t have to be the best team in the country, only the best team in that stadium that weekend. He said the only tough team will be USC, but they play at South Bend. The problem with the BCS system is it favors this sort of outcome.
To: fuente
As much as I hate the Gators, that is one hell of a team. I think the schedule is favorable (”favorable” for an SEC team is a relative term..). I think they repeat this year, handily.
