I know personally the woman who “smelled something wrong” in a somewhat similar abuse case from a few years ago. It’s really an amazing story. She was on Oprah as a hero because of it.

Can’t. No death penalty for kidnapping nor child rape is allowed, certainly not in CA. Even “normal” murder doesn’t earn you a drop.
There is some hope in that the perv is a suspect now in numerous killings of prostitutes and if convicted could be executed for those crimes.
Kidnapping is a DP offense in many states. Aamof, there is someone on death row for it now, in OK, I believe.

You may be correct in theory. In practice I think it’s pretty clear the Supremes won’t allow an execution to be carried out for anything but particularly atrocious murders.

Agreed. He and the wife should get the death penalty. The misery they caused. The poor woman, her children by the monster, her mom and step-dad who for all these years was a suspect. Just horrible.
