Many years after losing my mate I was recentaly able to set up a computer. I am learning, please be patience with me.
After setting up the computer, I messed up and had to pay someone $75. to come to my house to help me fix the mess.
My friend came over and decided that I needed instant messanger, yahoo and installed Mozilla, I already had Avast, now I am confused.
She says, I also need Avg, whatever! I have Gateway home vista and am at a loss of what to do.
How do I get rid of the extra whatever, that I do not need?
I did not want yahoo, what did I want? I thought that I wanted internet explorer!
Lost and confused!
What? All my free programs do, Avast is great, Windows Defender is great, Malwarebytes antimalware is great, SUPER antispyware is great, spyware blaster is great, when I used to use spybot and ad-aware they were great.
All the free programs that I have ever known remove viruses/spyware/adware.
My interest, Flowers, plants, children at play, my kitten named Buddy, I like to paint Bob Ross style.
I like fishing, and target shooting.,
I need a PC because I like information and I love to read. It is something to do other than look at four walls.
I'm some younger than you. My Sweetie in heaven would be 63 by now.
Well, the versions of AVG and Spyware Doctor that I use will detect but not remove.
Spyware Doctor sucks, and you have a trial version of AVG that has gone past it’s trial period, go to free.avg.com and get the free personal version and it will be free and remove all the stuff you want.
To be honest, you need to sit down and learn how use the computer. A lot of people get a computer and think it will teach them. They can be complicated devices. They aren’t that hard. They just require attention. They are like cars. Cars are really complicated to operate. You have a radio and transmission and lights/wipers,etc. But we take the time to learn how to operate all that stuff. Computer are the same.
Find a helpful person to install Linux on your computer. Then you don’t have to worry about viruses. When some tells you that you need blahblah, you can tell them “It doesn’t run under Linux” and the problem is solved.
Here is why I asked your interests.
Like flowers > (assuming photos) recommend Gimp (General Image Manipulation Program) it is free under GPL (Windows, Linux, MAC)
Like to read > recommend Firefox browser, I think it is more secure than Internet Explorer and has a ton of useful plug-ins for specialized uses. it is free under GPL (Windows, Linux, MAC)
If you like classic literature you might look at http://www.gutenberg.org There are nearly 30,000 volumes available. free downloads, some in text format, but many in HTML format which allows you to see the same format as the book (includes illustrations). Highly recommend this site.
Best regards,
TF
I like Linux also, have used it for 10+ years and would never use Windows except I must for work. There are also some missing apps for Linux (CAD program) and scripted publishing program (Scribus may fill that void, but I have not figured out how to script it yet).
My first Linux install was a UMSDOS version of Slackware, my first full GUI version was Redhat 5.0 and that was a while back.
Linux has matured, but when I started using it, it was not for casual users.
For neophytes, it is best because they are prone to viruses and malware. They can dual boot Windows but should stay in Linux for the simple stuff.
Use all the free versions in post 41 and they will do what you want except for spywareblaster that only keeps spyware from getting on but it doesn’t scan, the rest will scan and remove and are permanently free.
Post 46 explains why your AVG isn’t working for you but I prefer the free version of Avast anyway.
Personally I like avast, windowsdefender and zonealarm and spyware blaster for real time and weekly scans and then I do frequent scans with Malwarebytes antimalware (free), SUPERantispyware (free) and an occasional ESET online antivirus scan.
