Many years after losing my mate I was recentaly able to set up a computer. I am learning, please be patience with me.
After setting up the computer, I messed up and had to pay someone $75. to come to my house to help me fix the mess.
My friend came over and decided that I needed instant messanger, yahoo and installed Mozilla, I already had Avast, now I am confused.
She says, I also need Avg, whatever! I have Gateway home vista and am at a loss of what to do.
How do I get rid of the extra whatever, that I do not need?
I did not want yahoo, what did I want? I thought that I wanted internet explorer!
Lost and confused!
You’re feeling more frustration because of the loss of your life partner - the person you trusted - and could count on... The problems with the computer are a symptom of loss. I can’t help you with the computer - because I can hardly use the one I have - but I can tell you that you are loved - and this time will pass... The person who loved you all these years wants you to be happy - and have a working computer. It’ll happen.
\ I have loved you Guys for years!
I was wondering, will it hurt the computer to have two
No, you can have 2 different browsers open at the same time and the computer will run fine....
True dat....
The solution is simple. Sell your PC and buy a Mac. No viruses (yet) and extremely user-friendly interface.
Ladies don't give out their real age but if you really want to know I am a young Granny, Hows that , cutie?
Two browsers or two anti-virus programs? In my experience having two browsers has never cause me any trouble. But having two anti-virus programs running at the same time has cause me a little trouble. Someone more knowledgeable than I may be able to explain why.
Yes, I have a lot of years and a lot more miles, but I can still hold my own with the Wunder-Kinder techies.
There was a time in this country when age was respected. Guess corrupted POLs have ended that as well as respectability.
Now about sarcasm? Not very good at that. Pretty literal person.
I did suspect your inquiry, with 2000 date on your joining FR.
\ That a widow really could be confused! God Bless!
Thank you I will follow that advice.
We had a ball reading the free republic but he was in control of the gear shift, OK? Is that alright with you that a woman let her husband use the controls like a man?
Please don't get your panties in a wad!
You sound like a cool granny!

“”1. Remove icons in the Startup folder. Go to START -> Programs -> Startup, and remove any unused icons that are located in this folder. To delete, right click on the icon and choose “Delete”.
2. Open MSConfig. Go to START -> Run, and enter msconfig. Hit enter to start the program. The following window should appear: (image)
3. Click on the ‘Startup’ tab. Here, you will see a list of programs that is similar to the one below: (image)
4. Uncheck any programs that you do not want Windows to run at startup.
5. Click ‘OK’. A new window will appear, asking you to restart your computer.
6. Click ‘Restart’.””
To remove a software package from Vista, click the button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen that has four colored windows in it (in Windows XP, that used to be the “Start” button). Then select “Control Panel”. Inside “Control Panel” double-click “Programs and Features”. Inside “Programs and Features” right-click on the software you want to remove and select “uninstall”. Click “yes” and “continue” when prompted.
Here’s a couple of links you can consider that will probably help you learn a lot more about Vista, and make your computer do more for you:

Evil: When I have the map to the Universe, I will be free, and the world will be different, because I will have understanding.
Robert: Uh, understanding of what, Master?
Evil: Digital watches. And soon I shall have understanding of video cassette recorders and car telephones. And when I have understanding of them, I shall have understanding of computers. And when I have understanding of computers, I shall be the Supreme Being!
If I were you then I would stay with the most common stuff, Internet Explorer, Windows and such because I assume that you just want to get on the computer like everyone else.
When these people try to help you by telling you to get into all the uncommon stuff like Linux and Firefox, just tell them that in time you will find your own preferences and try new things but that for right now you want common, simple, and routine.
A “browser” is what allows you to “surf” the internet. There are a few. Firefox and Internet Explorer are just two of them. I prefer Firefox because I’ve read that IE is nosy about what you do on the net among other negatives. You only need one anti-virus, one anti-spyware, one firewall on your pc. Having more than one of each installed can be counterproductive. Each can prevent the other from working properly. I use ZoneAlarm for its firewall and anti-spyware. I changed to Avast anti-virus because it uses less memory than AVG and doesn’t take as much time to scan your computer for viruses. They are all free and you can find them by using a search engine like www.ask.com and typing the name of the program you are looking for. To remove things from your pc that you don’t like or don’t want, click on Start, click on Control Panel and then click on Add or Remove Programs.
