Dakota Fanning may play the lead in a sequel to The Wizard Of Oz, it has emerged.
According to reports, the 15-year-old is being tipped to take the lead in a follow-up to the classic 1939 movie that shot Judy Garland to fame, reports Contactmusic.
The original film was based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
The film's producer, Basil Iwanyk, says, "It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy's granddaughter."

Sorry, Hollywood doesn't have ANY original ideas that they have to try and sell a REMAKE of one of the most remarkable films ever?
Let's hope this dies on the vine, and quickly.

(MIND BOGGLES) If the Real Dorothy was say 10 years old in 1939, what is the chances of her “Grand Daughter” being only 15 in 2009?
Highly unlikely, highly unrealistic, I would have thought. Great-grand-daughter at least.

Avatar looks good. Lots of CGI.
Time for somebody to come along and make the Edgar Rice Burroughs flicks about mars and venus.

I cannot stand modernized remakes. No doubt the writers will incorporate some of the vilest rap and modern “music” to show how “with it” they can be.
Won’t be seeing it.

I can’t wait. A PG-13 Wizard of Oz movie.
Gratuitous rape scene?
A morally ambiguous evil witch?
Aunty Em as child abuser?

Frank Baum wrote MANY sequels to the Wizard of Oz, why don’t they just try making one of those?
Anything to erase the abomination of ‘Return to Oz’...

she’s more of the batman scary character of Scare Crow - than the nice idiot in OZ...but then again, it’s her mentality that makes her dangerous!

Hey! I liked “Return to Oz”! My kids did, too.
(OK, I’ll grant you the ‘wheelers’ were annoying as all get out.)
And it had a talking chicken...c’mon, that’s gotta count for something!

There are some movies they just shouldn’t remake and this is one of them.

Pixar is working on "Carter of Mars." No joke, their first live action film.

Exactly - The Wizard of Oz should remain untouched and undefiled. There is nothing that can be added to it.

Sounds cool but I still need some real actors. The mars series was great but I actually prefered the Venus series.
Personally I tend to think the old sci fi writers were better simply because they never envisioned that their books could be made into film. I think it made far more creative writers.
