Before you start coding, introduce a spelling error to your comment and run it through the spell checker. It will add all the [p]s and [br]s you need. Hey - slick! Thanks!

Yep. Only time it’s “required” is on HTML generators that don’t realize it’s optional...like MS Front Page. Course Front Page also throws a whole bunch of other non-required code in as well.

You do realize that the /p tag is optional, right? Not necessary at all.It depends on the browser. Better safe than sorry.

You seem to be missing my point. I already do type out HTML tags, and have no problem with it. I'm just saying that we shouldn't have to add p.../p to every paragraph. To start with the P tag doesn't need the ending tag, /P. You only need the beginning tag not the ending one. Next Para just put another P(in brackets of course).
Secondly, I am sure if you wanted to donate the money and the time to recode Jim Robs Web page he would be happy to oblige, as long as you could do a good job. This forum costs you nothing, you are not required to donate money and you can use it for free as much as you want.
A person who complains about the software on a free forum as if somehow they are paying a fee for it is pretty low in my opinion, of course that's just me. Liberals and other free loading types probably feel differently about it since they think they are entitled.
BTW, do you donate?

If we’re going to change the code, let’s ask for the Holy Grail-the ability to edit your post after it’s posted.

A person who complains about the software on a free forum as if somehow they are paying a fee for it is pretty low in my opinion, of course that's just me.Let me rephrase. I am not complaining. I am offering a suggestion to make the forum better for many of us. I have no expectation, only a hope, that it will be acted on. If someone wants to show me the code, I could probably point out exactly where to make the change. But if people don't make such suggestions, how would things ever improve?
To: Brett66
If were going to change the code, lets ask for the Holy Grail-the ability to edit your post after its posted. No kidding. That one shouldn't be that hard, either, though it would be a more complex problem.

It could lead to all sorts of mischief, like denying that you'd written something slanderous that you had, and then putting it down the memory hole.
To: calex59
I’m not complaining. Matter of fact, I said in my initial post that I didn’t want to mess with the Big Man’s toys.

That's why every existing edit feature makes a notation that the post was edited. I don't see why an edit feature would be any different in this format.

I don't see why an edit feature would be any different in this format. It would only if it were coded to do that (with a capability of retaining the original version). It could be done, but it would be a much more complex problem. As others have noted, this is custom code.

Find a good & free HTML and text editor. Keep it open at the same time and filled with your favorite HTML snippets and images.

The “new” search should be fixed/changed back before anything else

Gee Non.....
What do you want?
You want to drag Free Republic kicking and screaming into the 21st century?
Give it a few years. Maybe one of these days.....
To: qam1
I’ll second that!
The search function just plain sucks.

Please, go reread what I wrote. I have no problem with HTML. I have written HTML for a living.
I would just like to not have to put in paragraph tags, when the computer can do it much easier, faster, and typo free, than I can.
To: Kansas58
Maybe you’ve got it checking for coherence instead of spelling.
(hehe, just kidding.)

If I need to find anything on FR, I do a Google site search. I’ve never been able to find anything with the FR search.
