WEGMAN’S health food section has prepared quart containers of Tazo brand Matcha Green tea (with hint of honeydew melon, tropical fruit).

LABEL says it’s ceremonial green tea of Japan made from freshly picked green tea leaves ground into fine powder; mixed with water in traditional fashion, then packaged. With guidance from ancient scrolls and a haiku or two, Tazo adds hints of honeydew melon and tropical fruits to create combo; equally inspiring served hot or iced.

WAYS TO SERVE

Excellent poured straight from fridge, with non-dairy “Almond Breeze” vanilla almond milk added.

HOT TEA LATTE Use half Tazo Green Tea, half milk (or milk substitute). Heat in micro, steamer, stovetop, or open fire pit.

ICED Mix equal parts Tazo with milk (or milk substitute), pour over ice.

One of my favorite flavor, type and brand of teas. Loose leaf is best.

Bags are much more convenient

I prefer Ahmad Earl Grey Green Tea. I like the Ahmad brand. I have to buy it mail order. Someone brought me some from England and I was hooked.

I get my macha from them as well. Always fresh, always within a week. Great stuff.

I'm not sure if you are wanting green tea hot or iced. If you want it hot though go to any specialty store and buy a green tea called “Gunpowder”. The tea is rolled up into tiny balls and it has a really nice flavor and aroma. You'll need an infuser if you don't have one.

I once worked for a company that did a lot of research on Green Tea. We found that loose leaf tea is best. Green tea has a natural ingredient that is destroyed when making tea bags or iced tea.

I personally like the Gunpowder tea from China. No aftertaste at all. I drink about 10 cups a day.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond with your suggestions. I have ordered more that few types of green tea, from more than a few sites. I’m sure I’ll have fun trying them all.

Also, krb- I’d be interested in knowing more about your large batch iced tea recipe.

It’s more of an instructional video I made for a friend a long time ago:

BTW never ever put iced tea in plastic until it’s cold. If you are going to make batches of it, make sure you have nice non-plastic stuff to put it in while it cools.

Nice thread-—glad it’s still active.

Here’s an amazing recipe for 2 quarts iced tea-—fast quick, delicious. Once I forgot it in turned-off micro overnight. Was still great.

Place in Micro 2-qt Pyrex glass measure, filled w/ 5 Red Rose tea bags, one qt water. Cover w/ small plate. Micro on high til very steamy, dark-colored. Do not boil-——micro about 190 deg, 8-10 min (depends on water temp, micro power).

Steep on kitchen counter 3 min......no longer. Toss out tea bags w/out squeezing. Add/stir 2-6 tea sugar. Add 3 cups ice; stir/melt.

SERVING Fill glasses w/ ice. Stir tea, pour over ice, serve immediately.

enjoyingtea.com Web Site:

Matcha is a famous powdered tea made from ground Gyokuro green tea. Only the most precious top grade hand picked Japanese tea is used for our Matcha. It is whisked with hot water in a bowl to make a frothy healthful beverage.

Matcha is traditionally drunk in “Japanese Tea Ceremony.” Contains high concentration of polyphenols that have powerful antioxidant properties.

A growing body of scientific evidence suggests that polyphenols may help prevent cancers, lower the risk of heart disease, and strengthen immune systems.

enjoyingtea.com Web Site products: Green Tea Sampler. Japanese Tea Ceremony Whisk Set includes bowl, whisk, wooden scoop, and bamboo case.
