In a recent Los Angeles Times article, the conclusion was drawn that Vin Scully will retire after 61 years as the Dodgers' announcer following next season.
Since this is Scully's 60th year it had been speculated he might retire after this one. But Scully made it clear that won’t be the case.

I remember, as a little kid, listening to Vin broadcasting Brooklyn Dodgers games from Ebbets Field on NYC Channel 9. Man, he’s been around a long time. One of the best.
The other day I tuned in to the game on the radio, but had to switch over to KNX to find out the score. They gave the score before Steiner did on the actual broadcast.
Same with Eric Collins, the TV announcer on the east-coast broadcasts. He & Lyons talk about anything other than the game they are broadcasting.
In 1960, I had a tiny radio that could get only two stations: KRLA, then a music station at 1110 kcs, and KFI, which carried the Dodgers, at 640 kcs. During the spring and summer, I would tune in at night to hear Vin Scully broadcast the games.
Well, I’ll have to be junior here. I began listening to and being fascinated with Vin Scully in the 1960s. I have so many great memories.
1960 for me, too. Baseball passion baptism. KFI. Back then, we could hear it all the way from LA to Eastern Arizona (at night). Vinny and Jerry Doggett were a nighttime fixation for me. I knew all the players and umpires back then (fewer teams, most of them stayed on the same team year after year), and could visualize a ballgame with Scully’s vivid word pictures.
I was rewarded that same year with the best world series ever, the Pirates-Yankees; oh, what teams those were!
Eric Collins is terrible. His penchant for using cute terms to describe the action is irritating. His constant sucking up to Steve Lyons is embarrassing. I dread the Dodger eastern road swings for these reasons. May Vinny stay healthy and prosper.
How can we miss him if he won’t go away?

When you listen to this clip, it hard to believe that Vin is doing this on the fly. His sense of timing is perfect.
My favorite World Series took place in 1963, when the Dodgers beat the Yanks four straight.
In 1965, I listened to the World Series late at night on Armed Forces Radio in Germany as the Dodgers outlasted the Minnesota Twins in seven games.
