I’m not even sure they’re in Alaska, but the girl on the boat said they would be out about 5 days, so it makes sense that they’d do a quick patrol north before it freezes up.
Nice day here. The little boys are sunburned. Frank had a nap, and I had a shower. After Tom gets out of the shower, we’ll give Frank a bath. He’s been sweaty!

54F and raining here. Some of our new transplants from California are not happy -- one boy (about 14) was definitely not liking it and I'm afraid I didn't help by noting all the different words we have for "rain." Our poor rector learned about not leaving the sunroof open at night; he was not prepared for baptism by water today. *\;-)
5 days. I think that might be enough to get to Alaska and back. It's 580 nautical miles direct (to Ketchikan), call it maybe 700 nautical miles. 60 hours each way, so if the boat can go at least 12 knots it's doable.

Years ago I got to go Juneau on the USS Juneau (LPD-10) from San Diego. It was a tiger cruise with my brother-in-law. It took us two weeks but we spent at least one day doing circles off the course of Oregon.
There is more than one word for rain?
To: ThomasThomas
There is definitely more than one word for rain. Up here, "rain" is not only the generic term for precipitation but it also indicates a specific rate.
Several times over the years I've started to compile a list, but it always goes down the drain. The terms include not only the amount of rain but sometimes its steadiness.
Starting at the light end we have mist and drip, continuing with drizzle (light, medium and heavy), and further up rain (L-H), shower (L-H), downpour(-H) and cloudburst, and runforit.
Just kidding about the last. "Gullywasher" is used elsewhere but we don't often get that heavy a rainfall. The usual range here is drizzle to rain.

Found some more
here: blast burst cascade cloudburst deluge downpour drips droplets drops flood inundation rain raindrops rivulet torrent trickle showers sluice spatter squall
We don't use all of these here.

80s this afternoon here. It clouded up for a while, and then cleared. Unfortunately, it’s too buggy to sit outdoors, but the ambience is pretty loud even inside with the windows closed.

Good morning, Undead. It’s nice here at the lake, a pleasant breeze off the water to keep the bugs away. Frank and I sat out on the dock for a while watching the others attempt to fish.
They’ll have to come in, soon, because they got pretty drastic sunburns yesterday. Vlad woke up a couple of times in a fuss last night, and couldn’t figure out how to explain that his skin hurt. There are games inside, cable TV which we don’t have at home, schoolwork if anyone claims to be bored!
Quiet on this little inlet; moderate boat traffic, mostly families with kids. If there’s holiday partying, it will be up around the public-access areas nearer the interstate.

Good morning. It is cool enough to work in the yard his morning, so I am off to he yard.

Good morning!
I’ll be doing drive-by posting today, as I need to rearrange the sleeping area. Maybe it will give me a false sense of having more room... :o|
At any rate, I’m hoping my oomph doesn’t give out before the job is done.

The fishing people didn’t catch anything. They can try again in the evening. I took Ash for a walk. My “boss,” the Spanish battleaxe, called from Charlotte to say she wants us to order a book from Spain; I’ll assign it to DP, since he knows how this computer works.
Good luck on your reorganizing.

I’m going to have to have the baby-nap attack, while DP tries to figure out how to order books from Spain.

Puns, like poetry, don’t translate well. We get to keep them in our own language.
