The colossal new Dallas Cowboys Stadium is living proof that everything is bigger in Texas. The menu in the luxury suites proves that things there are more expensive too.
Those enjoying a Cowboys game from a luxury suite at the new stadium will have to shell out $90 for pizza and $66 for a 12-pack of domestic beer, reports Steven Sipple of the Lincoln Journal World. Ninety bucks for pizza? That's almost as much of a rip-off as Roy Williams.

Another reason why I always hated organized sports. Rah, rah, rah....huh?
Was this built with taxpayer money?
“Go Steelers!”
Stealers, you should mean, after they stole taxpayer money to build their stadium.
That’s always been a point of contention at our company ($1+ billion) as well.
It seems that a small few people in sales and marketing have exclusive control of our suites, and regularly use those tickets even when customers aren’t involved.
However, I’ve always made a point of finding the events I want, like when the circus comes to town, and getting suite tickets early. Food and drinks are on me, but every suite has a public vending booth down the hall, so you don’t HAVE to buy $150 subs. And, our company makes a regular habit of giving away suite tickets when they’re available. Very good for morale, so you don’t hear a lot of griping.
However, we do make a point of getting specific customers into our suites for the really big events (playoffs, Indy 500, etc.). It really does help during sales pushes.
And, Anybody who says suites are for “poofters” has never been in a suite and is just showing a bit of envy. Sitting in a comfy seat with bears and chow a few feet away is INSANELY better than sitting with the unwashed masses (j/k), if you can afford it or somebody else is picking up the tab.
“Actually, stuff like this gives Capitalism a GOOD rap.”
It’s not capitalism if it was build with taxpayer money, like most sports facilities are.
You can watch the game for free on TV. Why would anyone pay $500 or more to take the wife and 2 kids to a Pro game anymore is beyond me.
Not if the NFL has their way, either pay per view or not at all with the blackout rules. If the prices keep going up the black out rules are in effect - some times it applies to pay per view too. My advice, go to a minor league game - there are hundreds of teams (some way better than others) and usually only 5 bucks.
That's a bargain at only $5.50 a bottle. Giant's stadium price last year was $8.00 for a draft domestic.
THAT part of it I agree with.
Our Indy stadiums both gave the teams a sweetheart deal.
But, I’m talking about people buying expensive stuff because they (or their company) can afford them.
Right now, our city is considering ANOTHER tax on hotels to fund the Colt’s new stadium. I’d rather see a ticket and sales tax on everybody that actually enters the stadium.
“But, Im talking about people buying expensive stuff because they (or their company) can afford them.”
Could they aford them it they had to pay full price without the taxpayer subsidy.
This is a particular peave of mine. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia got brand new sports stadiums courtesy the taxpayers. Here in York, PA we fought off a taxpayer funded stadium for years, until the promoters agreed to raise half of the funding from private sources. It’s still half funded by the taxpayers, even thought 80% of the people here didn’t want it. And some of the land was taken by eminent domain.
I rarely watch sports on TV anymore, and I never attend them in person. It galls me to have to pay an admission after I already paid for the place.
I agree on the larger issue of taxpayer-funded stadiums.
Here in Indy, our Colts were actually PAID to accept a newer, larger $800 million staduim.
I think we paid them $100 million to break their old lease on the Hoosier Dome/RCA Dome, in addition to a share of the gate AND vending.
Now, they’re $10-20 million short for annual maintenance and they’re talking about new taxes. Hell, the city may ask the state of Indiana to take over the “Capital Improvement Board” that runs the stadiums and other sites.
Another example of why pro sports is dead to me now.
ALL Pro teams, in every sport, are leveraged to the maximum in order to stay afloat. They did it to themselves, with the help of the players unions and via free-agency.
Virtually every team must have a packed house for all games, parking and concessions must sell big, memoribillia must sell briskly and the luxury boxes must have deep pocketed patrons that can drop thousands of dollars a game. Otherwise, they will lose money and will have to threaten the locals with sweetheart leases, stadiums, concession/parking deals, or else they’ll move.
The problem is, to do all that, teams have to field winners that almost “win it all”, every year. And that isn’t possible.
Luckily for the pro franchises, they’ve got the demographics that show how many people of ample income are inclined to drop serious dough on their “product.” To them, the people who just like sports and would like to witness a game now and then are not really welcome. Want to go to a game? Take out a loan losers.
