Tron: Legacy is the name (for now anyway) of the Tron sequel coming out next year. Last year at ComicCon Disney played a test reel and now they FINALLY released it this year at ComicCon we we can all see it clearly than from cell phone recordings of it.

Download and watch here: http://www.flynnlives.com/media/video/0xendgame.aspx

They also re-created Flynn's arcade at ComicCon and had a life sized model of the new lightcycle. Videos of this are at: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41803 production art at http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41791

All right. I’ll bite. What is the plot?

They weren’t on a blue screen, they were on a black set, which then got various types of animation added. It’s a stupid movie, but I like it.

" They weren’t on a blue screen, they were on a black set, which then got various types of animation added." I stand corrected but it is almost the same principle. The story line plot wasn`t fantastic but that added to the live actors plus animations did suspend most persons` disbelief enough to enjoy the film. An all CGI TRON2 better have one amazing script

In principle it’s the same thing, but in practice it’s proof of how much of what went into Tron they invented. There was really no CGI yet, they were approaching it as animation they wanted to put onto live action film, not unlike Mary Poppins, and the black sets were intended to make it easier. Everyday concepts like green screens used in even non-FX movies and TV shows now, motion capture dots, weren’t there. They made this up as they went along.

I think the biggest obstacle a new Tron will have is the lack of wonder. When Tron came out it was a “look inside” a world almost none of us understood, very few knew anything about computers, what they did how to use them. And while we knew it didn’t work like in Tron world there was a certain metaphor there that matched how we discussed them. Now computers are an everyday thing, there’s not a lot of wonder there. So yeah, they’re going to need a really good story.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. I will add the movie to my collection. I loved Tron.
