Tron: Legacy is the name (for now anyway) of the Tron sequel coming out next year. Last year at ComicCon Disney played a test reel and now they FINALLY released it this year at ComicCon we we can all see it clearly than from cell phone recordings of it.

Download and watch here: http://www.flynnlives.com/media/video/0xendgame.aspx

They also re-created Flynn's arcade at ComicCon and had a life sized model of the new lightcycle. Videos of this are at: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41803 production art at http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41791

I once heard a comic saw that Hollywood does remakes of the wrong movies. They like to remake classics that they’ll never be able to match, they should do remakes of the crappy ones where there’s real opportunity for improvement. Looks like somebody got the idea.

The special effects look incredible.

Truthfully, I'm kind of CGI'd out. Went with the family to see the new Transformers, and after about a half hour, I was wanting to bang on the robots or whatever they ares and shout, "Hey! Is there a plot rolling around in there, anywhere?"

Maybe this time, they’ll have the budget to actually show software bugs instead of the crappy throwaway sequence they did in the original.

yup

cgi is well, cgi. TRON had real actors on blue screen which gave it an air of believability.

cgi just looks, well, fake.

120 minutes of absolutely nothing would be better than the first movie.

For me, it's not so much the believability as it is the total absence of plot in exchange for special effects. I think the burnout moment for me was the scene in King Kong where he's fighting the T-Rex. For starters, I already know how King Kong turns out. Everyone does. So you know both King Kong and the chick will survive against the dinosaurs before you even start. With the ending figured out, there are all these impressive cinematic shenanigans that would be impossible even if dinosaurs and giant gorillas really were scooting around on a tropical island, and it's like a road runner cartoon, except not as funny.

The next thing you know, they'll have someone survive a nuclear explosion by hiding in a refrigerator.

I couldn’t disagree more. But — here’s some info on what is coming......

A homemade video — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrew4XtbjrU

and an article.....

July 24, 2009 - http://stereogum.com/archives/video/daft-punks-tron-legacy-soundtrack-will-probably-sound-like-this_081311.html

Daft Punk’s TRON: LEGACY Soundtrack Will Probably Sound Like This

As reported, the makers of the Tron remake (now called TRON: LEGACY) tapped robots of Daft Punk to score their forthcoming remake. And as Twilight fans Thom Yorke and Bon Iver reminded us earlier today, it is Comic-Con week, the time where studios preview their sci-fi wares and naturally make lots of indie rock news in the process. (CHECK OUT OUR HOT PICS!!1) URB Mag checked out the TRON: LEGACY space and filmed some video demonstrating the updated design for the Light Cycles (check that pic) in an exhibit playing music that sounds enough like Daft Punk for us to think that yes, we are getting a little preview of Daft Punk’s soundtrack right now. Apparently they’ve recorded 24 new songs for the film, due 2011. Get a start here:

Further: the Comic-Con rumormill has it that Daft Punk will be touring their TRON: LEGACY soundtrack one day. One day after 2011 comes, that is. According to Movieline, director Joseph Kosinski was asked if Daft Punk would tour their soundtrack and he replied that there would “definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon.” He also said he had pancakes with the guys and that they wore their helmets. Maybe he should be insulted? We all know that if the mood is right they’ll take those things off.

I will probably go see TRON Legacy on the big screen.

Now, am I enough of a glutton for punishment to brave the crowds and see it in Imax 3D?

It has certain;y been a while.
