This is my first (and maybe only) writing in FR, but I wanted to address this issue about Obama's eligibility to be POTUS.

It seems that all the liberals and even many on our side seem to think that the desire from Obama to verify that he's actually qualified to serve as POTUS somehow makes us kooks. I recently discovered that they even have a name for us-"truthers."

Well, I have to admit that when this issue first came up last fall, I didn't take it very seriously. I wasn't paying much attention to it, but I figured that Obama had released his birth certificate online and it was all settled.

Also, I never imagined that anyone would attempt a fraud of this magnitude. I mean, he'd really have to be the definition of arrogance to think he could cover up from EVERYONE the fact that he wasn't born in the United States.

I've seen the issue heating up again, so I decided to look into it further. Now, I may not have all the facts straight, but this is what I understand the facts to be so far:

1. Obama alleges he was born in Hawaii on Aug 4, 1961.

2. Obama has released a certificate of live birth (COLB), not to be confused with a long-form birth certificate. This COLB has appeared online and compared with other real COLBs from Hawaii, and its authenticity has been found to be questionable.

3. Even if this COLB were real, it would only prove that Obama's parents reported his birth in Hawaii, not that he was actually born there.

4. The White House has named 2 different hospitals in Hawaii that they claim he was born in, neither of which is willing to confirm it.

5. There have been several lawsuits against Obama, asking him to prove eligibility. None of these suits have been settled on the merits of the case, all have either been dismissed for lack of "standing" or are currently in the appeal process.

6. The state of Hawaii claims that Obama's original B.C. was (conveniently) lost when they switched to an electronic system.

7. People in Kenya have said that he was born there:

A. Obama's paternal grandmother Sarah Obama has signed a sworn affidavit saying she witnessed his birth at a hospital in Kenya.

B. Other people that have traveled to Kenya say it is well-known that Obama was born there.

C. The Kenyan ambassador to the US, in a radio interview, confirmed that Obama was born there-apparently he didn't know at the time that this was a subject of controversy. How would he? The state-run media would never tell him.

8. A recent Army major refused his orders to go the Afghanistan, asking that Obama first produce a B.C. to prove that he is qualified to be his commander in chief. Instead of fighting the case, the Army revoked his orders, opening the door to many more military objections.

There are several more issues surrounding Obama's childhood in Indonesia, the passport he used to travel to Pakistan in 1981 when the US had a travel restriction, and others.

Now, my question is, what makes us 'truthers' so whacked out and radical to want, with all these questions, for a guy that holds the most powerful position in the world to prove that he's qualified?

What's most distressing are the people on the conservative side like redstate.com and hotair.com that say this is a waste of time and distracts us from other issues like health care.

That is utter nonsense! Are they saying we can't walk and chew gum at the same time? Also, what greater question should we focus on than a person's eligibility to hold office? If he's ineligible, all the legislation he signs should be null and void?

So, please tell me, do I have my facts straight, or did I make an error? Assuming my facts are right, am I crazy to care about this issue?

I'd like to hear from people on the other side of this if possible. Why should this issue be ignored?

Small correction to an excellent post: he didn't refuse his orders: having standing from the fact of receiving orders he mounted an enquiry to clarify their legitimacy. This was to assure himself of legal protections in the future.

Is Being a 'Truther' Really a Bad Thing?

Let's get the terminology correct to begin with. "Truther" is generally used for those who believe the government had something to do with 9/11. You would be a "Birther".

Not “Truther”, but “Birther”. “Truthers” are those colossal d-heads who think 9/11 was engineered by the US gov’t, or some shadowy agency, or by the Jews. As far as I’m concerned, anyone who believes that to be the case should be strung up with piano wire and left for the buzzards to clean the carcass.

Sounds to me like you have it just right? Did you read however that the Military are planning a “class action” suit for this information. THEY do have standing!! Also, all of Obozo’s educational records and medical records are sealed. WHY??? The man is a blank slate and it’s HIS responsibility to PROVE that he is qualified. The arrogance of this man is unbearable. He just “feels” entitled I presume. CO

You really should ask for this to be pulled. You and a clue are mutually exclusive. Truthers thought 9/11 was an inside job. Birthers want to see Obama’s birth certificate.
