Army to play Rutgers in 2011 (at New Yankee Stadium)

Back in its glory years, Army regularly played college football games at Yankee Stadium.

The Black Knights are about to become a Bronx staple again.

On Wednesday, Army officials said they have agreed to three more games at the new Yankee Stadium, starting with Rutgers on Nov. 12, 2011.

The Black Knights will play Air Force at Yankee Stadium in November 2012 and Boston College in November 2014.

This is in addition to the Army-Notre Dame 2010 game that was announced on Monday. That will be the first-ever college football game played at the new ballpark, which opened in April.

"If you're a young man thinking about the service academies, this is part of the equation," Army coach Rich Ellerson said.

Notre Dame will be the home team in next year's game, but Army will serve as the home team in the following three games.

Rutgers played NYU regularly at Yankee Stadium in the 1920s and 1930s, with its last game in the old ballpark coming in 1948.

Even a football team will be hitting home runs.

On, brave old Army team! On to the fray! Fight, on to....

Oh, who am I kidding. This is going to be a public humiliation. My plebe year was when Army joined Conference USA, which was an unmitigated disaster. It's been tough times, especially given all the success Navy and Air Force have been having.

Queens College was founded in 1766. It's first classroom was a room above a tavern!

Classes were suspended when students took their muskets and joined the Revolutionary forces at the Battle of Monmouth! Revolutionary General Henry Rutgers left his estate to the college and the College changed it's name to Rutgers. I did maintain its logo from it's Queens College days.

SCARLET KNIGHTS!

Rutgers won the first intercollegiate football game Nov 5th 1869 when t beat Princeton!

Vanderbilt is coming up this fall to West Point.

I predict the Black and Gold will win that one. In fact, I’d put money on it.

I wonder why they want to play in the new Yankee Stadium. I mean, why there instead of a football specific stadium such as the Giants and Jets stadium. I heard somebody say it will be tough to lay out a football field within the dimensions of Yankee Stadium.

They did it in the old one. And it had the same dimensions I believe.

Remember, the New York Giants played their home games at baseball stadiums for much of their history: the now-torn down Polo Grounds from 1925 to 1955, Yankee Stadium from 1956 to 1973. It's only from the 1976 season on that the Giants played in their own stadium (Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands complex in New Jersey).

Since the new Yankee Stadium has the same field dimensions as the old one, they can easily accommodate a football field there.
