Austin's "Todd and Don Show" Cancelled (said the "W-word")

It's not posted on their website yet but it's been announced on the air that the suspended "Todd and Don Show" has now officially been cancelled by KLBJ-AM (Austin, TX).

The short-lived one-hour morning show meant to bridge between their morning show and the Rush Limbaugh show featured African-American newsman Todd Jefferies and former talker Don Pryor (son of local icon Cactus Pryor). It featured a rapid-fire whimsical look at the day's news. Sometimes it was funny, sometimes it wasn't but it was local and it quickly developed its own following. I sometimes listened to it while waiting for Rush or while I was doing my daily exercises.

On one recent episode of which I didn't listen, they apparently did a riff which featured the word "wetback". This raised the ire of local Hispanic-American leaders who demanded something be done. The station suspended the two for two weeks.

Today, KLBJ announced the show has been cancelled. Both men will stay employed by the station but the show will no longer exist. No mention has been made yet as to what will replace their show although they had been using an hour of the Neal Boortz show before the Todd and Don Show began.

tarheel is a compliment. It came from a comment that NC units didn't run in a fight, as if their heals were stuck down with tar.

So, am I allowed to call their children tar babies? :-P

Cactus Pryor may have been a great radio personality, but he is a bleeding heart liberal.

Yeah, he used to pal around with noted communist John Henry Faulk.

Didn’t know there was a previous thread. Sorry if I’m rattling some old bones. What made today’s announcement newsworthy was that they pulled the plug on the show permanently, not just suspended it.

I also did not realize, and wish to clarify so there’s no misunderstanding, that Don Pryor was the only one who used the offensive term and that he did so, by someone’s count, 34 times during the one-hour show.

In the past, Pryor has stepped in it a few other times and then continued to bring it back up while semi-apologizing for it at the same time. It’s part of his act but it obviously didn’t help him here.

Jefferies was suspended, in part, because he’s the show’s producer and, the management says, didn’t do enough to prevent Pryor from continually repeating the word.

I've decided to boycott.

If 0 can summarize me as a cracker clinging bitterly to my guns and religion, and paint his grandmother as a typical white person (cracker) and Barrientos is OK with his people claiming La Raza (The Race of Azatlan, including Texas) and KLBJ can't take the heat which was quite obviously IN JEST, then f'em.

WOAI out of San Antonio has better morning content, anyway. Just sad I needed a reason to switch.

And to think that the Leviathan had a program called “Operation Wetback” just about 50 years ago. Speaks volumes about how divided and degraded the country has become.

I can't get WOAI, so I will see what they replace T & D with today and maybe the rest of the week. It looks like KLBJ is catering to the minority community. With Austin being a sanctuary city, I guess they had pressure from the NAALCP and La Raza.
