Austin's "Todd and Don Show" Cancelled (said the "W-word")
KLBJ-AM ^ | 07-20-09 | OrangeHoof

It's not posted on their website yet but it's been announced on the air that the suspended "Todd and Don Show" has now officially been cancelled by KLBJ-AM (Austin, TX).

The short-lived one-hour morning show meant to bridge between their morning show and the Rush Limbaugh show featured African-American newsman Todd Jefferies and former talker Don Pryor (son of local icon Cactus Pryor). It featured a rapid-fire whimsical look at the day's news. Sometimes it was funny, sometimes it wasn't but it was local and it quickly developed its own following. I sometimes listened to it while waiting for Rush or while I was doing my daily exercises.

On one recent episode of which I didn't listen, they apparently did a riff which featured the word "wetback". This raised the ire of local Hispanic-American leaders who demanded something be done. The station suspended the two for two weeks.

Today, KLBJ announced the show has been cancelled. Both men will stay employed by the station but the show will no longer exist. No mention has been made yet as to what will replace their show although they had been using an hour of the Neal Boortz show before the Todd and Don Show began.

Big news? No. Will I miss them? Not really. But I felt it was worth posting to demonstrate again the power wielded by special interest groups. This was an irreverent show that made fun of a lot of types of people but there's some things you just can't say on the radio and, apparently, the "w-word" is now one of them.

I used to call canadians “Snow Bellies”. No one seemed to mind.

I guess if we're discrete and don't spell out the "w" word we are safe.

Not to mention the "r-word," the "p-word," and the "x-word."

Seriously: I read the hyperlinked article, and still don't know what they (and you) are talking about!

What is the "w-word?"

Regards,

when I grew up, people from NC were known as “tarheels”. Wonder if that is now a hate word?

I’m a Georgia cracker meaning I’m a lawless rascal.

And I’m also a honky. What can I do but shrug.

tarheel is a compliment. It came from a comment that NC units didn't run in a fight, as if their heals were stuck down with tar.

Now cheese heads is another issue. When attempting to insult people from Wisconsin are we going to have to call that the C-word?

As great as a radio man as Cactus Prior was, his sons Paul and Don were not able to inherit their dad’s skill for radio.

First, his son Paul was given a talk radio show of his own but due to his drug habit, the junkie radio host was fired.

And now Don finds himself off the air due to a dumb mistake.

well, if the words can be rated on being a “compliment” or not, that is being very subjective.... isn't it? After all, what is a compliment for me might not be for you (supposed I fought for the North in the War of Insurrection, would I still think “tarheel” is a compliment?

this “situation ethics” or subjective definitions which bring us to the edge of lunacy with no absolutes is one of the core issues/problems/dilemmas of obamanation, “and every men did what was right in his own eyes”......

How is the term wetback racist? The term was coined from people who swam the Rio Grande river as opposed to getting here legally. Are illegal aliens now a race?

Cactus Pryor may have been a great radio personality, but he is a bleeding heart liberal.

Of course he is a liberal, but he is not a junkie like his son Paul.

Don tried, but could not pull of satire like his dad.
