With that bunch it doesn't pay to rule out much.
“visiting with friends”, “swam to safety”, “wandered in a daze”....sheesh the local paper sure knew how to spin the BS back then didn’t they? A Kennedy staffer probably wrote the damn article for them.
One only can guess at how many phone calls were made to Kennedy family lawyers before he finally contacted police.
Well, it worked...he got away with it.
Actually it was heavily reported just not honestly. The real truth never got out until Damore’s book which should be required reading.
That book would never have happened if he hadn’t got one of the Kennedy family to talk.
Teddy was indeed guilty of manslaughter and officials in Massachusetts were guilty of criminal acts tho the local ones were just overwhelmed by the Kennedy fame.
On the other hand some rumors such as Mary Jo being pregnant or Kennedy purposely killing her were not true.
still more proof that it was really just a special effects coup in some lot in Hollywood.
The moon landing didn't save Teddy.The fact that a)he's a Kennedy,b)he's a RAT and c)this *is* Massachusetts,after all...are what saved him.
Some things never change.
And, oy, that's one lame story. "Uhh, yeah, that's it! I was wandering in a daze! For hours, yeah!
Randy Bish did a great editorial comic about this today in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
I wonder if that 69 Olds will be suddenly found and put up for sale in the near future?
It's amazing to me that I never even realized, until yesterday, that these two events happened within 48 hours of each other. No wonder not that many people were outraged about Teddy The Swimmer. They probably didn't even hear about it!
I was 16 at the time, and we were preparing for my Daddy's birthday, which was the same day as the moon landing, so I'm not sure if I remember hearing about Mary Jo Kopechne's death, when it happened.
