PETA sent a letter to California State Parks Director Ruth Coleman on Wednesday offering to pay to keep Pescadero State Beach open, but only if it is renamed Sea Kitten State Beach.

Pescadero State Beach is among the 219 state parks slated for closure under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to close a $26.3 billion deficit.

Pescadero means 'the place to fish,'

So I’m guessing Sea Kitten State Park would be a place to take your cat swimming? Or use a kitten as fish bait?

So take their dough, rename the beach, and fish the hell out of it anyway.

Sea Kittens are tasty!

I like Sea Kittens fried.
I like Sea Kittens broiled.
I like Sea Kittens raw, on rice.

A Sea Kitten by any name still tastes sw-EET!

I’ll donate if they rename the beach to...

Sea Kitten State Beach

I heard a vicious rumor going around that Kittens don't particularly like water, nor the beach. What is PETA gonna do when a million kittens march on their headquarters to protest this outrageous exploitation of their good feline name?

PETA is grasping at straws yet again. /shrug

Closing Pescadero, oh no!

When I was a kid my family would visit Pescadero on the weekends. It was a beautiful and nearly empty beach. Later my family moved to southern California and I haven't seen Pescadero since I was twelve. The crowded beaches down south have always proved a disappointment to me.

Of course, Pescadero wasn't;t perfect. It had a high crime problem during the week due to the fact that it was so deserted.

Them’s “good eatin’” too, once you get past all those teeth!

Maybe not a “sea kitten”. I’d call it a “Sea Lion” but I think that name’s already taken.

It would take me 30 seconds (at most) to come up with a delicious southern fried sea kitten recipe. Do you prefer pan fried, deep fried or baked? Another question - thyme and parsley or tarragon and marjoram butter sauce to accompany sea kitten?

You just know that some wise guys would tag an “x” over the “a” on every sign.

How about Lado De La Carne State Beach?
