Does FR need a ZOT category? (Vanity)

I have a wee tiny suggestion for Free Republic.

Is it at all possible to have a ZOT category, just as for General chat, or smokey back room?

It would be genuinely nice to have a place where the shame of so many trolls could be put on public display!

Thanks Mods!

My computer has been down most of the day, so I apologize for not answering everyone.

Howya, FRiends! I just got a phone call from SR Anoreth, who has three more weeks of training. After that, she will be going to (drum roll ...) Seattle! where she will be on a long-haul cutter cruising the North Pacific. She was hoping to go south for the winter, but oh well.

She says seamanship training is really fun, shooting was okay but the guns were awfully big, and next week, they’re learning firefighting. The food is plentiful, but she’s getting tired of it. How quickly they forget weeks of the Casserole With the Beans Again at home.

She thanks everyone who’s written.

North Pacific. Not quite as romantic as South Pacific.

A lot of crabby people, too.

I’ve never been there. I’m not sure how far north it will be ... Aleutians? At least it’s not a Great Lakes icebreaker. She’ll be a general seaman, cleaning and maintenance and fetching and whatever.

I’d have no way to know how far north she’ll go, but folks who get in trouble are usually pretty far north. And rescue is one of the duties for Coast Guard.

On the other hand, her ship will not be the only one out there.

I’m sure there will be information when she gets there. When my dad was deployed in the Navy, they always had a plan for the cruise in advance.

Maybe she’ll visit Siberia!

A scan of the Coast Guard’s Pacific Northwest division info shows, based in Seattle ... icebreakers.

But also non-icebreakers such as this one:

Here’s another.

“The cutter Mellon was designed to perform each of the Coast Guard’s missions, which include search and rescue, defense operations, law enforcement, and environmental protection. The Mellon conducts Alaskan fishery patrols, enforcing international and domestic fishing requirements. Mellon patrols the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea, the Eastern Pacific down to South America.”

Icebreaker service should make her socially very savvy.

And I bet she gets to cross the International Date Line quite frequently. Make sure she knows those two things are not related.

Oh but it was. Through Seattle it's rush hour all day long. Coming home I saw there was a bad collision by our freeway exit so we took a back way. Hard to believe this ate up 8 full hours but oh well... we (as opposed to me) had little on our plates to do today and it helped a friend who's helped us in the past.

We got friendly, welcoming folk here. Think I can get an invitation to one o' them icebreaker parties? *\;-)

My friend told me of what she called “ The Tacoma aroma “ after I told her my strongest memory of Olympia was the smell. Breweries or paper mills I don’t remember. Is this still a common phrase up in Seattle?

Melon cutter? Sounds like a healthy addition to the diet.
