Thousands of jumbo flying squid - aggressive 5-foot-long sea monsters with razor-sharp beaks and toothy tentacles - have invaded the shallow waters off San Diego, spooking scuba divers and washing up dead on tourist-packed beaches.

    Asian people at my neighborhood Italian Feast asked me what Calamari meant. I told it was fried squid. They came back four times for more. Only three more weeks until Saint Rocco’s Feast is held again. WHAT SUMMER?!

    The biomass of squids in the world oceans greatly exceeds the biomass of all humans on the earth.
We have fresh yellow fin from the Hudson Canyon tonight...the fisherman who shared his catch with me said in all his years off-shore fishing, he has never seen such large biomasses of squid at night. The tuna were ferociously feasting.
Global warming. Yum!

    Back in the 1970’s South Florida was invaded by an alien species of large plant-eating snails from the tropics. The things damaged the landscape of Miami until someone discovered the snails could be eaten and local papers printed recipes.
