NASCAR said Jeremy Mayfield once again tested positive for methamphetamine and asked the federal judge who lifted the driver's drug suspension to reinstate the ban.
The positive result from a July 6 random test was included in a U.S. District Court filing Wednesday that included an affidavit from Mayfield's stepmother, who claimed she personally witnessed the driver using methamphetamine at least 30 times over seven years.

Har har. Stand Mark Martin in street clothes next to a REAL athlete in street clothes. Then YOU report back.
I agree, I’ve been witness to a man who lost it all. I cut ties with him. You can’t reason with them. The drug takes all control.
NASCAR did just that July 6 at Mayfield's home...
The best way to catch a drug fiend is to test them after a long holiday weekend. Good for NASCAR.
If you had seen last weeks race...It reminded me of a joke. Most sports require a ball....football, soccer, baseball, tennis, golf etc. NASCAR requires two!
Pffft, and you say these guys aren't athletes? :)
Now THAT I agree with, regarding auto racing. I just can’t define it as a “sport”.
“The best way to catch a drug fiend is to test them after a long holiday weekend. Good for NASCAR. “
Exactly, after a gig we played at a house party we were sitting around and 2 guys starting smoking crack. One said he had a drug test the next day for a new job. His buddy took a hit, passed the pipe to him and told him that the drugs would not show up in his urine for at least 72 hours. I chimed in and said, Well I just peed out the beer I drank and it’s in my system! No sense among the addicted, only enablers.
This sport will wear your ass out if you are not in fine physical condition. You ever see a fat driver?Or pit crew for that matter? Not for long because they wont last.
GREAT!! I’m a bi-athelete!! I Play Poker and Bowl!! LOL
Me and My friends always joke if you can drink a beer and eat nachos during the “sport” it’s not really a sport.....
You have it backwards. Auto and motorcycle racing are ABSOLUTELY sports. Football and baseball are merely “games”. ;^)
Seriously, it is my opinion that anyone who does not consider motorsports to be an athletic event has never participated in motorsports. The aerobic fitness level of most professional race car, and virtually ALL professional motorcycle racers rivals that of triathletes.
During a game, professional football players spend WAY more time standing around than actually engaging in physical activity. A race car driver or motorcycle racer is NEVER inactive while competing. They MUST remain 100% focused, 100% of the time they are driving/riding their vehicle. They engage in intense physical and mental activity, and substantial physical strength is required to pilot a competitive racing vehicle.
Driving or riding competitively is almost NOTHING like driving a car or riding a motorcycle “fast” on the street. Until/unless you have done it you cannot understand exactly how intense and physically/mentally demanding it is.
Additionally, there is absloutley NO room for any lapses in concentration of any kind. In football, baseball, and other ball and puck related sports, etc., a loss of concentration can cost you a game, or maybe cause you or a team-mate to be injured. When a race driver or motorcycle racer makes a mistake it can easily cost them their life.
You are free to believe what you wish, of course, but I assure you that modern-day race car drivers and motorcycle racers are every bit as much “athletes” as football, baseball, basketball, soccer or hockey players.
Yep! Got that right.
However, don't make the same statement for one of the truly "tough" guys: Tony Stewart....{:-)
I can’t wait for the hydroplanes coming to lake Washington next month. The two races I never miss, this one and the Indy500.
Even poker? I also think they broadcast the national spelling bee.
You forgot the spelling bee and hot dog eating contest. That would qualify you as a quad-athlete if you can spell and eat hot dogs.
I’ll have to settle for Tri..LOL Spelling was never my strong suit....But Hot Dogs..MMMMMM I could eat a couple Nathan’s right now!!! YUMMY!!
Seems like the car and its’ mechanics are more responsible for success than someone who sits on his ass driving the car. The car produces the power and the mechanics maximize that power.
Tony’s got a gut for sure, but I would reckon he’s like a lot of NFL guys - chubby fit.
My buddy Kenneth Nichols who was an outstanding USAC open wheel driver here in the midwest, qualified and ran the Boston marathon several times in his 40s.
Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games.

In my opinion, what makes motor racing something less than a "sport" or an "athletic event" in the mind of a lot of people (including me) is that a big, expensive piece of machinery has a far bigger impact on the outcome of the even than the physical/mental aspect of the event from the standpoint of the athletes.
The same could be said about quite a few different "sports" these days. Horse racing and bobsled/tobaggan events are good examples of this.
