It seems Jessica Simpson got an unwanted birthday present for her 29th Friday – according to People magazine, boyfriend Tony Romo broke up with her the night before.

A source close to the singer, 29, told People that she was “heartbroken” at the news.

“She loves Tony. But it’s been difficult lately. He’s busy with his career and she’s getting ready to shoot her show ‘The Price of Beauty.’ They decided to part ways.”

"but he can't figure out which players are worth having."

That pretty much sums up the point I was trying to make. Jones has done an amazing job of saving that franchise and growing it to become one of the premier sports franchises in the world. He can also get deals done.

But, its when he doesn't let the GM and Coach do their jobs to identify the players needed and who is the best fit on the field. If you got an owner who always acts as a trump card, sits there on draft day and during FA period overriding descisions the GM and Coaches would want to make, it pretty much sums up the cowboys performance over the past 2 decades.

You might catch lightening in a bottle and get a superbowl caliber team for a couple of years given the money you can throw around, but most of the time you'll end up with subpar performances and long stretches of .500 or less wins per season. Doesn't matter how awesome your stadium facilities are, how much the cheerleaders can shake their junk, how many pro-bowl caliber players you have on the team, if there is always a trump card sitting there not letting the GM and Coaches alone to do their jobs, the team's performance will suffer.

If its even true that Jones is begging Jimmy Johnson to come coach the team, when you really look at that total lack of longterm vision for the franchise with a move like that, it just reaks of desperation. And honestly, unless all you care about is paycheck, who would want to be setup to fail like any head coach will be under Jerry Jones.

BTW, you know why Jerry decided to build a new stadium instead of renovating the old one?

He found out facelifts don't work.

I think Jerry is getting a little desperate. One thing where Texas is different is that people will not turn out to see a loser. I know that Philadelphia, Chicago, Green Bay and Cleveland will fill up the stadium whether the team is 12-4 or 4-12, but Dallas isn't like that.

And that stadium he built is a monster. Its been designed as very adaptable multi-use facility. Football games, concerts, corporate events, etc....so its not like some money pit that will never make back its construction costs. It will over time.
But for cowboys games, you’re talking about soo many luxury boxes, club and general seats to fill, and the team is no better than last year. About the only thing they did right was get rid of one of Jerry Jones biggest blunders, TO.
But as for their performance this year, I’m looking at only 7 wins at the most and likely that their head coach will be fired halfway through the season.

I’m a woman and have no interest in Jessica Simpson. I happen to be in the same gym as she was while she was working out.

She’s got Brooke Shields written all over her. Andre Agassi’s court performance fell off a cliff when he hooked up with her, and recovered magically once he kicked her to the curb.
Some women, no matter how hot, are just kryptonite for athletes.
And I don’t even consider Romo to be that great of a qb, but if he still wants any kind of productive career in sports, he needs to ditch the distractions and headtrips of a high-maintenence pop star with obvious eating issues.

JS went on a serious diet and workout schedule to firm things up for her role as Daisy Duke.

“She DOES need someone that will like and then love her. Hard when you are a star but...my advice to her would be to hang it up and go do something else. That life destroys people.”

Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson seem to bounce from man to man as well. Can’t seem to get one to stay.

fascinating. A Texas-sized saga, a tale of two titans: Johnson and Jones. It would be a fitting additiona/final chapter of these two larger than life characters.

Yeah, I think there was a little “post production work” done on that image.

FWIW, I spend time on the Dallas Cowboys forum, and there's no buzz on this rumor at all there. Wade isn't particularly popular as the Pokes coach, and Jason Garrett catches a lot of flak. The only coaches that get any love there are Johnson and Landry. Heck, a lot of Cowboys fans still want Landry to come back.

Johnson was a great coach for the Pokes, but I think this season it's about toning down the drama at Valley Ranch.

Johnson coached in the pre-salary cap era. The 90s Cowboys were the last "Super Star" team. Irvin, Aikman and Emmitt are all in the HOF. When you add guys like Charles Haley, the O-line, etc., I don't know that it would be possible to keep that team together with the current salary restraints.

The modern model seems to be the Patriots, who have one sure HOFer in Brady, and a core of good players who understand their roles.

She looked good. She had on short shorts and her legs were in nice shape. She had on a white top and you could see her tummy. Not fat at all to me. She is very tiny and short. My husband is a trainer in the gym she was working out in and we are used to fit women and can spot em and Jessica looked very fit and in good shape to us . Certainly not fat at all.

don’t forget when they brought over Deion....all my 49’ers fans friends were moaning about how it was a waste of money. I just said they were free to believe that, but the Cowboys were free to buy away 49ers talent and thus win the Super Bowl.

Which is exactly what happened......

yes, and yet they are all depicted on covers of mags and stories and TV as beauties that have everything. See what I mean? Seems to me they have NOTHING but the $$$ they make. NONE of them are happy. If you have all that beauty, fame, money, homes, vacations, expensive (silly) clothing and outrageously priced handbags and shoes etc...how come they are not happy like an ordinary person? Fame is not all it is cracked up to be unless you are mature enough to handle it like some of the stars did in t he days of old. Seems everyone wants their faces out there and the cameras filming them 24 hours a day. It’s insecurity plain and simple. Age comes quickly in that dark world anyway and so there is plastic, botox, creams, etc... too many parties and drugs. How can THAT lifestyle be anything but destructive???? Beats me.

I've always thought Deion was the success that ruined the Cowboys. It solidified Jones' belief that he could buy stellar talent and get by with sub-standard coaching.

That core of talented players dragged Barry Switzer to the Super Bowl with them.

That may very well be a right on longterm analysis. Short term success, no doubt, but longterm arguably a ruinous strategy.

I have often remarked - accurately - that I could have coached Switzer’s team to the Super Bowl.

Good point. (Though in the short term, the satisfaction was surely great.....)
