What is the downside of her publishing pictures of herself with little clothing on a social networking site. Even if it is just friends, or even friends of friends...how far could these pictures go?

They are bikini pictures. They aren’t lewd and “Girls Gone Wild” type stuff, she should be ok.

But they can be copied and pasted for eternity. Luckily, girls in bikinis aren’t as coveted as um, other pics.

There’s no point in worrying about what’s outside your own control.

Everything will probably be fine, and if it isn’t I’m sure you did your best.

I’d have to say completely depends on context. If she was wearing a bikini in a normal bikini setting (pool, beach, etc) then probably won’t matter, except to idiots.

Now if they were bikini pics as in “look at my body I’m in a bikini drool over me” then yea could be a problem later, unless that’s her goal in life.

Some cruel person might photoshop Sarah’s face to her body.

Jean - Why are you being so rude? A mom asked a question and all you can do is be hateful? Take your aggression out on someone else.

Chickensoup, I wouldn’t be thrilled if my daughter did that either (although mine is much younger) but I don’t think bikini pictures will ruin future employment opportunities, like drinking and partying might.

Can you just tell her what your concerns are? OR if you’re a friend on FB, go for the embarrassment factor and post chubby baby swimsuit pictures ;)

Well, for starters you should go here:http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1895740,00.html

Aside from that how many 18 yo’s keep all of their friends and acquaitances. Betrayals come only from those that have been trusted before. Dumped boy friends? On the internet you can be anyone you want to be. Are all of her web buddies people she knows in person?

All those cute personal details, cat’s names, high school, BFF,etc become data for phishing expediations to help gain access to financial accounts. Think about the security question on your bank, CC accounts.

Even worse are the predaors that use that information to get close to a target and she’ll never see it coming.

The global spread of the internet includes the ugliest places on the planet as wel las the ones comfortable to her.

Ask her if she would drive through the worst parts of your/her town at midnight with a spotlight on herself. she might get through but the license plate number is there for everyone to see.

If she’s not nude, don’t worry about it. There are about a quintillion pictures of scantily clad girls on the net.

Just make sure she understands that their is always the chance of a serial killer out there that just likes her type. Posting much about yourself on the net is never a good idea, just for general principles..

"and can do with them as they please."

No, they can only leave them on the site as they were posted. (or they can delete them)

It is enough of my business to ask what the downside is.

My primary objection to Facebook is it's top people helped Obama get elected with direct Internet networking assistance. Anybody who loves freedom in America should be boycotting the communists who help install the Marxist in Chief.

That boycott certainly should include Facebook.

Its founders are using their wealth and Internet reach to keep fascists like Obama in power.
