The plant has run an additional 25 years since its first close - the workers should have been prepared that it could close at anytime. No sympathy here for the unions.

I think their investment in it 25 years ago was a political move, and times have changed greatly. I am not in the auto industry, but I doubt this plant is very efficient or cost-effective.

I’ve been there on a tour. This is where GM was supposed to learn the ‘Toyota Production System’ (LEAN) in return for giving Toyota access to GM’s US supplier base. The system works well when used. I have a ‘green belt’ in LEAN and am a true believer. Check lean.org or google it for more info.

Hey this is “Green” California. We just passed AB 32 -Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 - we don’t want your carbon producing industrial plants making their C02 spewing automobiles. We want “Green jobs” “Green energy” So go back to Japan Toyota. Oh by the way could you leave a little cash donation to help out with our multi billion dollar state budget deficit?

I bought a Pontiac Vibe that was made there because of my plant tour. The Vibe and Corolla are made on the same assembly line, you’d see a Vibe, then a Corolla behind it, etc.. I think the plant will close, though. Three main reasons: California, UAW and the goal of getting into GM’s US supplier network were met.

Toyota would be wise and helpful to shut down..
Why should they enrich unions at their own expense..
Toyota has other plants in the U.S. which are NOT union shops.

Unions have become a thug worm consuming the economy....
Many have come to represent uneducated, unskilled, incompetent, lazy self serving bloodsuckers -— especially the civil service unions...

F’em all.
