RIVERSIDE -- A San Jacinto man is accused of "slam-dunking" a Chihuahua to the ground, forcing it to be euthanized, according to police.
Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrested 44-year-old Javier Rodriguez Garza Tuesday after he failed to show up for a mandated court appearance related to the felony animal-cruelty case, according to a Department of Animal Services press release.
Garza is accused of slamming his three-pound, 10-week-old Chihuahua, called "Chipy", to the ground on April 13 after an argument with a woman.
Animal Services Officer Jennifer Sinclair observed the dog on the night of the incident and said the animal yelped when she touched its hind legs, according to the release.
Officer Sinclair told Garza that he was legally obligated to take the injured animal to a veterinarian. He said he did not have the money to get the dog care and signed the Chihuahua over to the Department of Animal Services, the release said.
A veterinarian determined the dog suffered bilateral femur fractures and would need to be euthanized because of the extent of the injuries.
Garza faces one count of felony animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of failing to provide an injured animal veterinary care.

Hope he has “fun” in prison. Word will get around quickly that the new guy on the cell block is the brutal killer of a 3 pound Chihuahua. He’s likely to get some invitations he can’t refuse to try out his Tough Guy skills — like on some 300 pounder who’s been pumping iron every day in the prison gym for the past several years.
Send him back across the border.

Throw the jackass in jail. This is one of the few things someone could do that would make me respond violently without thought of the legal consequences.
No punishment harsh enough...NONE!! Poor baby dog - RIP.
People spoil their little dogs to the point that they run around like little devils yelping and nipping at everything they see - hence the frustration.
