They lie rigidly face-down on rooftops, postboxes, luggage racks and even in the engine of a jumbo jet.
It's the latest and perhaps the most bizarre internet phenomenon yet to sweep the globe.
Several Facebook groups set up in honour of 'the Lying Down Game' display thousands of photographs of people lying face-down in progressively odder locations.
It seems no location is out of bounds, with people lying down roofs, in the middle of the road, in front of tanks, across bars in pubs and on table football games.
Participants are told there are two aims to the challenge; that the lying down should be as public as possible and that as many people as possible should be involved.
Players are told they must have their palms flat against their sides with the tips of their toes touching the ground.

omg- two Maryland teens were killed last week on a light rail line- they were hit from behind and first reports said they were lying down when struck
Now it makes sense, if this was the sick game they were playing. Sounds like it.

The losers "winners."
Ha. I’ve done this. But only after a fifth of Four Roses.
If a train ran me over, I simply don’t remember. I guess what is old always becomes new again...:)
Isn’t that what Rachel Corrie was doing?
Nah, she was playing Palestinian Gladiator against a bulldozer.

Okay, so she gets Honorable Mention.

LOL...that picture slays me...gonna leave a mark!
I think they are lying down wrong.
“lying down should be as public as possible and that as many people as possible should be involved”
Then I think Illinois State Government workers win the prize, they’ve been doing this for decades.
Perfect.
Laying there on the street with their heads up each others arses.
Right where they belong.
Different game. Lying down on the tracks while a train goes over you has been around for a long time, and has never been a large group activity, nor involved people touching each other end to end. Usually just two or a few teenage boys, sometimes on a dare, sometimes one lying on the tracks while the other makes a video recording. It got really popular after it was shown in some stupid movie.
It really is interesting to see what people will and won’t do when they are told to do something.
Great game until a steel wrapping strap comes loose and and gets dragged between the wheels....
How good is Four Roses? I’ve heard it’s awesome, but I can’t seem to get my hands on a bottle.
Is it worth pissing off the liquor store clerk?
LOL...well, I’ll tell you...
When I was 18 years old and finishing “A” school to be a Jet Mechanic in the Navy, my buddy and I got orders (we innocently went in under the “Buddy System” where they guarantee you and your buddy you enlist with will serve together)
We didn’t read the fine print on THAT contract, and it was only for your first duty station after boot camp, which was...our training school.
So we got our orders, he was going to NAS Miramar on the West coast, and I was going to a seagoing squadron on the east coast.
So I did the thing most suitable for a brainless 18 year old, I bought a fifth of Four Roses and
Drank.
The.
Whole.
Thing.
I’ve been sick, but never sicker. I had a Polaroid camera, and my buddy took a few pictures for me that would probably be on the internet nowadays, but...let’s see, there was a picture of me butt naked, curled up in a fetal position on top of a clothes dryer that had my clothes bumping around in it, which my buddy was faithfully washing for me, because they needed it.
He took care of me.
The next morning I woke up at 11:00 AM. I should have reported for muster at 7:00 AM. My buddy covered for me, and since I had been very good and trouble-free up to that point, I didn’t get disciplined by my superiors.
It was awful. It was at least 20 years before I could smell bourbon again without feeling queasy. So...I probably cannot answer that question for you!
How the heck are they supposed to twitter in that position?
