Try peace and love (Major Barf Alert)
Ventura County Star ^ | 7/7/2009 | Kathi Smith

Posted on 07/07/2009 9:42:05 AM PDT by Signalman

This country is constantly made great by people who are kind, generous and good-hearted. If there are angry, greedy or stingy people in Ventura County, they should try to hide that as best they can.

Love our country, lift it up and make it a better place. Love our president, lift him up in your prayers and help him be the best he can be. This country will continue to become great if people will see the good in each other, even the good in others who are different.

Take the toxic anger and hate in your heart and give it up for peace and love. Too bad there wasn’t something positive for you to do in the community, instead of making the Fourth of July sour and bitter for the patriots who just want to joyously celebrate our freedom on Independence Day.

— Kathi Smith, Ojai

Today's Ventura County Star had a number of letters criticizing the July 4th Tea Parties. Here's one of them. I just had to share it with my fellow FReepers. Peace and Love, everyone!

Love our president, lift him up in your prayers

Sorry, that would violate the Left's separation of Church and State.

I wonder how this letter writer felt about the “Pink Ladies / Cindy Sheehan” protests against G.W.Bush? Why do I bother asking?

Too bad this letter is about six years too late. The author was too busy hating at that point.

She talks a lot and says nothing. Life has a way of making prey out of people like this.

Hey, Kati! The 4th of July marks the day when traitors to the crown declared their Independence. It was deadly serious, and they knew it well. It was a day when common citizens took up the call to liberty against coercion and tyranny. Men (and women) dedicated ‘their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor’ to the cause. It resulted in years of bitter battle and bloodshed, heroism and determination, heartache, hardship and grief, and ultimate victory against the greatest military power of that day. It was not a 1776 version of Woodstock; it was not about fireworks, peace and love, picnics and fun in the sun...

I get a little passionate about this because my some-kind-of cousin multiple generations ago wrote those words. No big deal; I'm sure there are lots of us out here. That was a prolific family.

I’m sure Kathi four years ago had her “Dissent Is Patriotic” bumper sticker on her car.

“Take the toxic anger and hate in your heart and give it up for peace and love.”

Unless the President is a Republican, then let all the toxic anger and hate spew forth in spades.

Whatever happened to “dissent is the new patriotism?”
