New York, NY (CNS) - The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently announced that they are seeking the rights to Michael Jackson's 1972 hit song "Ben" about a boy and his pet rat.

They would like to use the song to raise attention on the plight of rats used in laboratory experiments.

Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of PETA, said in a statement released on Tuesday, "Michael Jackson's hit has always been a moving testament to the power of empathy for animals."

She added, "If more people could be inspired by his song to stop supporting the cruel and ineffective animal-testing industry, it would be a fitting and enduring tribute to this talented performer."

The song gave Jackson his first number one hit as a solo artist and was used as the theme of the movie of the same name, "Ben."

Ms. Reiman does realize, of course, that Ben led a pack of rats that killed people, including the idiot, Willard, whom the song purports to be from.

Are there any democrat politicians named Ben? I’m drawing a blank. But if there is one, by all rights it should be his.

PETA are the Scientologists of liberal activism.
They’re all publicity, no substance.
And they only exist to rake in money from dumb celebrities.

Cypress Hill's hit "Insane in the Membrane" should be PETA's anthem

Funny, NAMBLA wanted that song since they say it is about a 10-year-old kid.

Not true. PETA does slaughter lots of dogs.

"I'm Tracy Reiman, with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). I'm the Vegetarian Campaign Coordinator. And it's great to be here. I've met a lot of people who are interested in vegetarianism and animal rights. Hopefully the world will be vegan soon."

Tracy Reiman, who has been a driving force behind PETA's campaigns for 16 years.

Wikipedia says Earl Benjamin "Ben" Nelson (born May 17, 1941) is the Senior U.S. Senator from Nebraska, where he was born and has lived for most of his life. Nelson is a Methodist. A Democrat, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, and is now one of the leading conservative Democrats in the Senate. An April 2006 poll by Survey USA found him to be the Senator with the highest popularity rating, 73%, among his own constituents. In its most recent poll, his approval rating was 68%.

Do you know how much if any of that is true? I don't know anything about him.

I might go along with PETA on this *IF* they agree to go without *EVERY* type of medical treatment (surgical,non-surgical,pharmacalogical) that was developed or advanced, throughout *all* of human history, with the use of *ALL* laboratory animals.

And that would apply to *every* member of their families. Even the AIDS-infected ones!

Nothing jumps out as false.
I know that Lisa Murkowski, Republican senator from Alaska has a favorability of 70% right now. She may be the senator with the highest popularity, currently.

TYSONS CORNER, Virginia, July 3

Over 150 demonstrators, many from the nearby Animal Rights 2001 conference at the McLean, Virginia Hilton, descended on a local Wendy’s franchise to stage a so-called “counter attack.” Led by James Cromwell, who starred as farmer Hoggett in the hit movie “Babe,” a centerpiece cadre of four protestors —

Cromwell, PETA activists Jay Kelly, Lisa Lange, and Tracy Reiman — quietly entered the Wendy’s lunch line.

When counter attendants asked for their order, Cromwell and the others suddenly turned to the crowded restaurant, raised banners with the words “Wendy’s tortures animals,” and loudly exclaimed “This restaurant is closed for animal cruelty,” words that quickly became a chanted refrain as the protestors hopped on the counters to set the stage for the larger demonstration outside.

After five minutes of heated chanting by the small group indoors, plain clothes police officers entered the restaurant and handcuffed Cromwell and the others, forcing them off the counters to the floor.

“Stop — you’re hurting me, you’re hurting me,” cried PETA protestor Tracy Reiman, as a police officer pressed her hands behind her back.

Even as officers forced Cromwell face down on the linoleum floor, cuffed him and led him out the door eyeglasses askew, the red-faced actor remained unperturbed, chanting between every breath, “Wendy’s torture’s animals; Wendy’s tortures animals.”

No patrons left the restaurant during the sit in.
