Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

Okay, I’ll give you a political reality then. The Republican party may as well close up shop completely until after 2016. Why? The Republican party won’t defend one of it’s own. They just stand there day after day with their Democrat allies and allow barrage after barrage to hit Sarah Palin without doing one damn thing to stop it.

If she is done then so is the Republican party. What do you got in the bullpen oh mighty Republican? Sanford? Jindal? Barbour? He ain’t gonna cut it. Huckabee? Romney? No. Jeb Bush? I’ll campaign for Obama. Ya got nothin’. If the party doesn’t run Governor Palin, it will wind up with a nominee who is laughably weaker than Dukakis and will lose just as badly, and no I’m not joking.

Legislative candidates? Look, if the Republican party won’t defend one of it’s superstars then why should anyone who wants to run for office believe they will be supported by the same? Why stick your neck out for a party that will merrily stand aside as it is lopped off? No good reason there either, so it won’t happen.

Good going, liberal Republican party. Oh yeah, and you can count me among the votes McCain got only because of her, I wouldn’t have voted for him otherwise.

Well, then, get ready for eight years of the Obamanation. The Republican party officially has nothing at all that might defeat him in his second term.

disagree completely.

NEVER, EVER allow your opponent to define the terms of the debate, or you LOSE before you begin.

In this case you are allowing the media to define the terms of what constitutes and electable individual. We, as a nation, have allowed the leftists and the mnedia to brainwash us for too long. Enough already.

Please drink less kool-aid

peace

the question is WHY does an epitaph need to be written from now? there is lots of time, lots can happen and unless one just wants her dead and buried for other reasons, there is absolutely NO reason to be declaring her dead OR alive, at this point. why not let it play out and see what she does, and how she conducts herself and how people react to her. i don’t get the need to definitively state a fate for her political career one way or the other FROM NOW>

Now I post an article with the defensible position that Palins resignation takes her out as a viable Presidential candidate and I'll be branded a Sarah hater.

Her viability didn't change when she resigned. She's the same woman with the same strong ideals and opinions. The media simply wants a mushy RINO against their democrat candidate (whoever that might be). Anyone with a core conservative opinion will be trashed whether they are in or out of office. I think if we want a core conservative we will be better off picking one outside of politics whether or not we pick her since anyone with political experience who hasn't been trashed by the media will be a RINO.

Agreed. Imho, it's those who never supported Palin to begin with that are so put out by the outpouring of shock from those of us who did/do support her. They're clearly sick of hearing about her, think she's a flash in the pan and question the intelligence of those who think she's a viable candidate for higher office. To see that we are not ready to give up on her seems to irritate them no end.

Why is anyone even talking about Huckabee? Why is he on TV? Why are people appearing on his show? Why is anyone watching him?

Still waiting for an answer on this.

Get over this.Obama is ruining the country end of story. Sarah Palin has decided that since the idiots are trying to ruin her term as Governor only because she was the VP nominee and ran against Obama then she might as well step aside. The fact is they are fighting her on everything so she can’t get anything done. This pack of scum in the Alaskan congress, the DNC hacks , and others are hitting her with unsubstantiated claims of illegal activity. After each suit is thrown out of court then came another. Enough is enough.

My only grip is in the speech the other day she was not forceful in bringing home the point the DNC is responsible for turning her term into a lame duck status and for trying to ruin her. I guess she didn’t want to put up with it anymore. Nor did she want to spend one more cent on it.

What will she do next? I don’t know. But she won’t be gone from national politics, I would think because she is still quiet popular.

I would say the exact same thing about Colin Powell. Why is anyone even talking about Powell? Why is he on TV? Why is anyone watching him?

I agree with you. But Powell isn’t running for President, as far as I know. But he IS injecting himself into politics.

Exactly, We love her, but you don’t quit.

WELL SAID. She is a Great American BUT Its a bad example for the young folk.

Hell Reagan was shot in the chest, bullet an inch from the heart .... at the age of 70!
He had every damn reason to quit, but he understood that:

Leadership is based on Honor Courage and Commitment

He FINISHED his term of SEVEN MORE YEARS to the age 77, AND KICKED ASS EVERYONE OF ‘EM.

Either she quits now, and gets labeled a "quitter", has 2+ years to campaign, and a National Stage.

Or she quits after getting re-elected, which drains her warchest, and still getting labeled a quitter to bail out for the Prez election after only two years into her second term. During which, due to campaigning, her detractors back home pick her to pieces for not being there.

Others have said this exact same thing...

This was a smart move. Keep the faith.

Alaska, 2010, she could turn on her friend Lisa Murkowski. That's how BHO got into politics. Her prospects in 2012 will be defined by what she does the next couple years, and be dim without some elective experience.

I take her at her word, the Left has financially devastated her family and her concern is for their future. Mp> Ignorance! She just got a 7 figure book advance that completely wipes out her legal debt with a large chuck left over. Plus YOU need to take her at her word. She said she was going to be more active on a larger scale.

Well, if that was the point, she's doing an awful job of controlling her image - everything she's done contradicts the image we should be seeing - that of a sound, thoughtful, and smart decision maker. Many conservatives want to support her, but she's created environment that makes it difficult to do so. She doesn't even have a good communication strategy - no one knows what the heck she's doing or why she did it. The only thing she has effectively communicated is that she sees herself as a victim of the media - while that may be true, at some point, you just gotta stop whining and finish the job you were elected to do well. Unfortunately, she didn't do that, and now no one knows what she's doing.

From what I'm seeing, she probably has a end goal in sight, but I don't think she's actually identified the steps/tasks she needs to reach that goal. It seems like everyone here thinks she got some grand strategy up her sleeve, but I don't think she does. What I've seen is more indicative of sloppy and impulsive decision making. No offense, but I don't think people are being objective enough about choosing capable leaders.

And for what it's worth, some of the best advice I ever received was from a retired officer. I was completing some tasks where the operating environment was unpredictable. He always told me to stop worrying about other people, possible outcomes, and all the stuff I couldn't control and just concentrate on the only thing I could control - my own actions and decisions. He also told me to never quit any task given to me unless someone else in authority told me to step down. Just my 2 cents, but I think Sarah Palin let everything she couldn't control drive her nuts. She only had 18 months left to go, the perfect amount of time where she could have gotten people used to the idea of the Lt. Governor taking over for the next term, and perhaps better identified what issues she wanted her PAC to concentrate on/generate more interest.

Maybe I am wrong and she actually has a brilliant grand strategy up her sleeve, but nothing we've seen seems to indicate this.

I agree. Should Gen. Ike have vetted all his plans with Hitler's generals, from D-Day up through the Battle of the Bulge? Probably wouldn't have been prudent.
