Get Over it, Sarah is gone as a National Candidate
vanity | 7-5-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/05/2009 10:24:13 AM PDT by Bob J

Sarah is now unelectable on a national stage. The “quitter” specter will hang around her neck like “swimmer” does to Ted Kennedy.

You’ll be able to spot the realistic, clear thinking conservatives because they see and admit this early so we can put it behind us get on with identifying the candidates who can win in ‘12.

BTW - This doesn’t rule out a tangential private career ala Newt or a run for a House or Senate seat (although I don’t know where at this point) but as a national candidate she is toast.

That so many conservatives can’t see this is one of the reasons we lose so often...in campaigns and ideology.

It’s quite sad but something I’ve learned to live with. At one point I thought the conservative cause in this country could be galvanized around solid principles, sober and realistic goals and turned into an effective winning strategy and movement. But I’ve come to realize too many voluntarily ignore the ugly realities of politics and put their faith in Hail Mary passes, and frankly, are just too lazy for the time and effort needed to bring this country back to where they profess they want it to be.

Haley Barbour resembles Chief Karlin from Fletch way, way too much.
Not the sort of figure that is electable on the national level.

The Swimmer couldn’t be elected dog catcher outside of Massachusetts.
Looks like it’s going to be summer school for you!

Her resignation, however, ends her career in elective politics.

Palin is putting the needs of the state and Alaskan taxpayers ahead of her personal ambitions. She's accomplished much in the 2.5 years when she was Governor (please remember that Palin has 17 years of both elective and appointed experience in government, so she's not a neophyte), and if she was good enough to be chosen for VP, then she's good enough to run for President.

You know as well as I do that if she would have remained as Governor, she would have been dragged down with more BS ethics complaints that would have prevented her from doing her job and campaigning on behalf of other conservative candidates in 2010. She can't do that as Governor of a state thousands of miles away anyway. Still, I think she should have resigned right at the end of the year but she probably didn't want the Lt Gov to go through an election without having some time under his belt, IMO.

So I think Palin made the right decision here. She's the only Republican who has the guts to criticize Obama and the Dems, and we need to take out the RINOs too.

If the country will elect a guy who could have been the cover model for "Mad Magazine", Barbour will do just fine - especially if unemployment is at double digits and inflation is on the rise.

Sara palin can NEVER be elected president. That fact should preclude people from hoping for a palin presidency. It’s hopeless. Move on.

But she never made any indication that she's running for President anyway, so you're premise is false.

Republicans have been calling Global Warming™ a hoax, and look at all the good that did.
The Democrats passed their Cap’n Tax bill unadulterated in full because there was no alternative Republican proposals to temper it. This is what happens when you let the other side offer their plan and you don’t offer your own.

Again, I direct you to the Hegelian Didactic.

But, without a blue-chip education

Typical elitism. Palin has common-sense and traditional values. Who cares if she didn't graduate from Harvard?

and without a complete first-term as Governor

She was chosen for VP, she was elected Governor to begin with, and she has 17 years of experience under her belt.

and only the experience of governing of a very sparsely populated state (smaller than the city of Austin, TX)

Alaska has many issues in terms of geography, climate, natural resources, and foreign policy. All of these plus the massive size of the state makes it just as challenging as if she was Governor of a lower 48 state.

she would get crushed by Obama, even if the economy doesn't get any better.

Pure BS.

A community organizer with almost no voting record is President. So quitting as Guv to begin the national fight disqualifies her? McCain was our nominee a few months ago. Not that it was important to me, but McCain had a few skeletons in his closet like amnesty, infidelity, ABSCAM, etc.

Sarah is a fighter. She has 3 years to beat the snot out of RINOs and dims. When Obama and Co. finish destroying the economy, Sarah is gonna have a real shot at the Presidency.

Republicans have been calling Global Warming™ a hoax, and look at all the good that did.

They must have done so in anechoic chambers because, other than a small handful of conservatives, the right has been nearly silent on this issue for the past several years.

The Democrats passed their Cap’n Tax bill unadulterated in full because there was no alternative Republican proposals to temper it. This is what happens when you let the other side offer their plan and you don’t offer your own.

The cap and tax bill passed the house because the democrats are the majority in that chamber. And they are the majority because the repubLICKans, including your beloved Newt, prefer to bend over and take it rather than stand up and fight against the left.

Six months from now she will have disappeared from the national scene because the media that so much hates her can now ignore her.

The media has to cover the thousands of people who will surely show up at her rallies and speeches.

Again, I direct you to the Hegelian Didactic.

It's dialectic, and that's a bunch of bull. You don't need to offer an alternative proposal to a make-believe problem.

But it does explain why you like Newt and the GOP establishment.

It was a typo. It’s the second time I used ‘Hegelian Dialectic’ in the conversation with meyer. But you are very smart anyways.

"She was chosen for VP, she was elected Governor to begin with, and she has 17 years of experience under her belt. "

The overwhelming majority of the people who voted on election day completely disagree with you, not me. Whether I think Palin was qualified, or if a blue-chip education is important or if her short amount of tenure in a sparsely populated state was adequate, is immaterial. The American people have already spoken.

Exit polls clearly stated that the overwhelming majority of Americans didn't believe she was qualified for VP. Now, you can disagree and make your case that she was qualified, but you can't disagree that the American people didn't think she was qualified.

When you ignore incontrovertible facts in favor of your own beliefs, you're beginning to engage in idol worship.

Incidentally, I couldn't care less if someone goes to a blue-chip school, or if they even go to college at all. And, I think she was just as qualified as Obama. And, I believe her experience governing in Alaska was just fine, although she would have been much better served finishing her term. But, elections aren't about what individuals think, they're about how the American people think.

Of course, you're right to a certain extent, but the entire Worldwide, Soros assassination team is waiting for the next "conservative hope", at which time they will slowly turn and aim the full force of their nuclear power in that direction.

They'll dismiss Sarah with one word, "quitter", but she has taken her family out of the line of fire. Levi will have to get a real job.

That seems to be the same attitude that was proven false when other Presidential candidates lost an election after quitting their previous job. And darnit if they didn’t win later!

So go peddle your “I thought of this so is very very correct and anyone who thinks otherwise is just dumb”.
