eBay warns buyers off $1 mil 'Kenyan birth certificate'

Administrators tell those who contacted seller not to respond again

A notice from eBay administrators is now warning people who have contacted the seller of an allegedly genuine copy of Barack Obama's birth certificate – from Mombasa, Kenya – not to contact the seller again.

Furthermore, the sale page offering a dissertation on "the truth" about Obama's birth – with bids reported by WND readers to have exceeded $1 million – has been pulled from the auction website for the fifth time.

As WND reported, the eBay seller, known to the public only as "colmado_naranja," alleged he obtained President Obama's birth certificate while traveling Africa. He explained that Kenyans boasted that Barack Obama II was born in the Coast Provincial Hospital in Mombasa at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, which correlates with speculation that has existed over the president's birthplace since even prior to his election.

In each of the seller's first four attempts at auctioning the "evidence" of his claim, which would presumably render Obama ineligible to serve as president for violating the "natural born citizen" clause, colmado_naranja offered an alleged Kenyan birth certificate that "proved" his story.

The eBay website, however, has a policy forbidding the sale of certain government documents, which presumably led to the auction page being removed.

In the fifth and thus far most successful attempt at auctioning "the truth about Obama," the seller didn't mention the birth certificate, offering instead a "dissertation" on Obama's birthplace, and yet the auction page has disappeared again.

Maybe the seller should try Sotheby’s, or Christie’s.

eBay are facists. Isn’t there another competitor to them? I know a few companies tried to compete.

Somebody wanted it because they placed a $1 M bid.

Didn’t Rush Limbaugh sell an official government document on Ebay?

An official letter from The Senate Majority leader to his bosses calling for his censure....

As I recall it sold for 2.1 million dollars.

You said — Seems like it would be cheaper to fly to Kenya and get your own copy.

Seems that a lot of people prefer to ignore that little fact and simply pay $1 Million for it... LOL...

Here’s what eBay apparently said to people writing to that guy who said he had a “dissertation” to sell for $1 Million... :-)

“Our records show that you recently received an email from colmado_naranja through the Ask Seller a Question or Contact eBay Member features. This email may be fraudulent,” the eBay notice warns. “This kind of email is often called a ‘phish’ or ‘phishing attempt,’ and the people who send them are known as ‘phishers.’ Phishers use these methods to try to get your personal information, such as user names, passwords and credit card details. Because the emails may sometimes come through the eBay system, the phisher may seem to be trustworthy and have a good reason to contact you.”

The notice then instructs, in multiple places, “Do not respond to the sender either through the eBay system or your email account.”

Now, it’s true that eBay is infested with scammers, and they know it. They’ve had so much in the way of problems, that they’ve taken to warning people.

HOWEVER, all this seller colmado_naranja has to do is contact WorldNetDaily, since they’ve got the ability to “get the news out” about his document, and they can examine it and *verify it* and tell the world that according to *their investigation* the document is *authentic*.

Now, this seller *knows this* — and if he doesn’t contact and work with WorldNetDaily and get this done, that pretty much confirms that he’s a scammer.

There couldn’t be a better outfit to work with to get this kind of documentation out, because they’ve been interested in this issue from the beginning and haven’t given up on it since. AND, Jerome Corsi has also worked on *this very document* before while he was in Kenya. He *knows* about this documentation and could provide the expertise needed to get this thing taken care of.

BUT — I suspect that this is nothing but a scam and a ruse — or else this seller would already be working with WorldNetDaily right now, and WorldNetDaily would not have trouble reaching him (which they *are* trying to do...).

You said — What do you want to bet its Sammy Korir?

LOL..., I followed API (African Press International) while it was happening. I never posted there, but just read the stuff. He was such a fraudster, and he could keep people “on the hook” for so long, it was amazing...

Now, WorldNetDaily is no API and they would be well qualified to work with this guy to get the information out to the public, but note what they have said about that...

While WND has made repeated contacts with colmado_naranja, the validity of his claims – as well as the previously advertised “Kenyan birth certificate” – remain a mystery. The seller has refused to allow the document to be seen or photographed.

I’m sure WorldNetDaily would be more than happy to either fly there or maybe even have the seller flown to them. Either way, they would be glad to keep the certain info confidential and be able to examine the document and see if it’s authentic. However, the seller has refused any such thing and WorldNetDaily is at a loss to do anything about it...

It doesn’t sound like someone who has an authentic document that they want to get out to the public, even if he wanted to sell an authentic document. The “authenticity” of it is the *one thing* that would increase its value *exponentially* while not being authenticated means that someone is simply “taking a gamble”...

You said — It would be even cheaper to open Photoshop and create your own.

That’s exactly what might be in the process of being peddled right now. All you need is some other copy or two of a legitimate one, and know how their system works, what kind of paper is need and any other pertinent details, and you would be “home free” to creating your own to sell on eBay.

The fact that you can *only examine it* on the steps of a public building and nowhere else — and you have to decide “on the spot” whether it’s satisfactory or not, that tells a lot, right there.

If the guy was really serious about *authenticating it* (which would increase the value exponentially, if done) — then all he would have to do is work with WorldNetDaily and get them to authenticate it, and give them an “exclusive” on reporting about all aspects of the document.

WorldNetDaily would *jump through hoops* to get that kind of deal and would do anything to work with the guy to do that. Can you imagine what kind of publicity WorldNetDaily would have, with an “exclusive” with this guy and this documentation. All other news agencies would have to get their information from them.

BUT, this guy won’t do that — and the only reason why I can think that he would not want to have it *really* authenticated by an outside source like WorldNetDaily (and them getting experts to do it) — is that he knows it’s fake.

His best chance is by the method he’s picked to do — to pass of a fraudulent document.

Wait a minute. WND has carried out its own scams, not to mention rumor mongering and plagiarism. I wouldn’t trust WND to verify anything. I’m half surprised they haven’t “independently” verified it already.

Jerome Corsi is one of those people over there (working with WND), who went over to Kenya to do that very thing that this seller of the document said that he did. Jerome Corsi would be someone who would work on this and get to the bottom of it with no problem.

He’s the one who exposed Kerry and it’s said that his book is the one that was the primary cause for Kerry losing. I got his book, too, and I thought it was quite good.

Corsi has also written on other issues and has been a great conservative writer. I wouldn’t see any problem at all with him getting to the bottom of this.

In addition, if there is just *one* news source that has been hammering away on Obama’s birth certificate — it’s WorldNetDaily. They have not given up from “day one” on that issue. So, I think they’re an excellent news agency to deal with this issue. It’s right up their alley in what they’ve been doing all along.

Of all the news sources reporting on this issue, I can’t think of one that has done *more* than WorldNetDaily on this issue.

Must respectfully agree to disagree. My opinion of Corsi is not NEARLY as high as yours.
Polarik did the work on the BC issue and WND never attributed it.
I have other issues with WND, but it ain’t worth fightin’ over.

you should register for a digg account and post those two replies on the related bc threads as much as you can. that would drive them crazy over there and within a few days they would probably ban you for a TOS violation, but you’d spread your message to some that have yet to hear it.

WND is only offering $10K. The seller wants more.

GO TO RUSH. I’d get on a plane to West Palm and find his office.

The only reason the FBI and SS haven’t raided the seller yet is because of the ARROGANCE of this administration. The DU’ers can’t get past the voicemails and secretaries. I am sure they’ve tried.

You said — WND is only offering $10K. The seller wants more.

I’m not saying that WND should buy it, but that they should help the seller get it sold, by working with him and publicizing it and going through the steps necessary to get it authenticated. They could have an “exclusive” agreement with the seller to be the only one to report all aspects of what it took to get the document and how they authenticated it and any and all details about it.

That would be invaluable to the seller, because getting it authenticated would make the document even more valuable than it is now, because now it’s not authenticated and any buyer would have to “guess” (even if they had an analyst with them at the time), because they would be standing outdoors on some public steps and would have to make up their mind in that environment.

By having WND work through the authentication process with the seller, then any buyer who was interested would have that question already verified and the evidence could be presented to them, before they even pay the money.

WND gets all the publicity and people accessing their news website and the seller gets even more money than he could get now.
