I couldn't help wondering how many of those on the streets proclaiming their sadness at the death of Saint Michael would have been banging on the side of the prison van if he'd been convicted of child-molesting

On one level, Michael Jackson was Gary Glitter with money, which enabled him to buy off the parents of his alleged victim Jordie Chandler with $22million.
If he'd tried that in Britain, the same self-appointed mourners singing 'Beat It' out of tune this weekend would have been standing outside his front door, throwing petrol bombs and chanting 'Kill the Paediatrician!
The Jacksons were little more than a novelty act churned out at the fag end of the Motown production line - the black Osmonds.
Michael's global fame and fortune was predicated upon a single album, Thriller, which owes as much to Quincy Jones's brilliant production and John Landis's groundbreaking video as it does to the songs themselves.
Elvis, he wasn't. Nor was he Sam Cooke, James Brown or Otis. None of that matters to his fans, nor should it. But a sense of perspective is in order.

I believe that it's an indication of how naive and easily fooled so many people are. Because someone is heralded as a great performer and perhaps is able to produce a few tunes that they like, many people become starstruck and dispense with any and all normal wariness that good parents have when allowing their children to interact with strangers. Magnifying that in this case is the issue of race, which to many self-loathing white liberals means that a black man with huge international stardom is not only someone whom they will trust completely and without reservation of any kind but is someone whom they will make any extra effort to accommodate, being passionately eager as they are to demonstrate to themselves and their friends how non-racist they are. Being able to say "Yes, I left my children with Michael Jackson for the weekend, isn't it wonderful?" is akin to saying "I'm not a racist and this proves it" for some. I have met several white women who in a moment of honesty told me that they dated black men merely to make a statement to their friends about how liberal and non-racist they are. And for the lurkers with the chips on their shoulders, no, I'm not saying that "ALL" white women who date black men are that way. It is, however, an absolute fact that I have met several who have said that they had done just that.
Being starstruck also will cause many people to overlook wrongdoing, regardless of the scale and regardless of the severity. We've all seen it with the Clintons, who can commit any illegal act and even violate the law to the point of a Presidential impeachment, but they will always have their legions of adoring fans who rush to explain away the transgressions and cover for them in any way, even to the point of 'falling on the sword' themselves. We saw it with O.J. Simpson, where mountains of evidence were pooh-poohed by his adoring fans who screamed "RACIST" at the proceedings against him from day one and to this day truly believe that he is indeed searching for the 'real killers'.
Maybe they should have a contest like they did with the Young Elvis/ Old, Fat Elvis postage stamp.

It’s unfortunate that the woman you spoke to was so rude to you, but for many (most?) liberals, they are unable to deal with facts that run counter to liberal / leftist dogma because for a great many they have replaced religion in their lives with liberal / leftist politics. Belief in their dogma is a matter of faith and so they don’t know how to deal with contrary views....all of their friends are liberals, the ‘news’ media that they tune in to is exclusively liberal and they probably don’t know any Conservatives at all. A Conservative viewpoint is just as alien to many of them as Satanism is to us, and they are unable to manifest any response other than getting angry, shouting and running away. It’s an indication of their intellectual weakness and of the strength and truth of what you said. I’m only sorry that you were treated rudely because you deserve far better than that. Best wishes to you and yours and thank you for bringing some truth, logic and sense to some of the braindead Left, even if they don’t understand it :-)
