Cops called to dispute after cocker spaniel-pit bull fight (Cocker Spaniel attacks Pit Bull)
Seattle PI ^

Posted on 06/29/2009 9:04:36 PM PDT by Chet 99

About 6:30 p.m. Friday, police were called to investigate the report of threats in a block of 23rd Avenue Northeast.

A woman in her early 40s told police her cocker spaniel got away while being walked and was in a skirmish with her neighbor's pit bull.

The neighbor told an officer the woman's children were walking her cocker spaniel when the dog got off the leash, ran into his home and attacked his pit bull.

The woman said the pit bull owner swore at her and threatened to shoot her dog. The man admitted he swore at her but said he doesn't own a gun and never threatened to shoot her or her dog, according to a police report.

Police told both people the incident would be documented.

Between 1997 and 2008, people reported 51 cocker spaniel bites and 19 menacing incidents to the Seattle Animal Shelter. None of those were reported last year.

In a nutshell, this documents what is wrong with Seattle in particular and America in general!!

TOO MUCH FREEK'IN BUREAUCRACY!

Good Lord folks, we have people spending taxpayer money to document Cocker Spaniel bites. For 11 years! They probably have an answer if you ask how many Cocker bites since Elvis died.... We are over [and done] as a viable society!!

Snerk! My dog’s such a pushover with little dogs...Once at the dog park, someone’s little Boston Terrier was following him around, gnawing on my dog’s tail...Swiper didn’t bat an eyelash.

I’m sure that’s what happened. If there had been so much as a scratch on either dog, it would have been reported. The only newsworthy bit here is the accusation of a threat, which may or may not be true...

Cocker Spaniels were at one time rated as one of the worst biters.

I’d say this one was a cocky spaniel.

but my king charles spanial, while no genius, attracts women like no animal you've ever seen. If that isn't a useful skill for a dog, I don't know what is.

Now, why would chicks like a dog like this?

Not sure about that one. But they sure like this little guy. And I'm surprised to read about cocker spaniels being aggressive. This guy rarely makes a sound and is gentle and kind to hamburger.

I had a cocker spaniel who was so smart that she even understood some words that we would spell. As far as biting, the only ones she snapped at were either children who were trying to pet her and were chasing her or adults that she probably had good reason to be suspicious of. I think her problem with children was that she was not raised around them and didn’t understand their high-pitched shrieks and sudden movements. Normally, if we introduced her to a friend, she was their friend for the rest of her life.

"My guess is never got started in the first place. The Cocker probably made a bunch of noise and the Pit looked at it as if it were insane."

Not to be a wiseass (well, maybe just a little) but are you seriously just now starting to figger that one out?

Crazy but true story:

I am and always have been a Doberman person.

By chance, I got into Ibizans 20 years ago and my male Doberman Arthur would always harass mellow old Red the Ibizan.

Arthur kept coming into the house with a bloody nose.
I had a vet appt. scheduled to make sure he didn’t have nasal cancer or something when one day, I was outside and heard this weird noise.

It sounded like a dog either gagging or snorting.

I came around front to find Red calmly standing there, holding Arthur’s nose in his mouth, waggling his insanely long tail slowly and nonchalantly.

I yelled “Red! Let him GO!” and he released Arthur’s schnoz and casually walked away.

Red was not a fighter *but* he wasn’t about to put up with Arthur’s crazy vendetta against him, either so I reckon he decided to just simply shut off his air supply until he backed down.

Years later, after Red was gone and Arthur was 14, Jack the 6 month old Ibizan pup came here.

Arthur stiffened up and went after him [albeit in a slow old coot mode] and Jack, thinking Arthur wanted to play, plowed into him and knocked the poor old guy down.

I helped him back up and he never bothered him again.

[I do not think the 2 breeds speak the same vocal or body language at *all* and a *lot* of “miscommunication” went on]

Hey. It’s my wife’s dog. I take no responsibility for the Halloween costume. My dog is the Husky in the background.

"Just a guess, but since the headline wasn’t ‘pit mauls cocker spaniel’, the pit probably didn’t fight back. Yes, it does happen."

As the saying goes, "It isn't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog"
