About 6:30 p.m. Friday, police were called to investigate the report of threats in a block of 23rd Avenue Northeast.
A woman in her early 40s told police her cocker spaniel got away while being walked and was in a skirmish with her neighbor's pit bull.
The neighbor told an officer the woman's children were walking her cocker spaniel when the dog got off the leash, ran into his home and attacked his pit bull.
The woman said the pit bull owner swore at her and threatened to shoot her dog. The man admitted he swore at her but said he doesn't own a gun and never threatened to shoot her or her dog, according to a police report.
Police told both people the incident would be documented.
Between 1997 and 2008, people reported 51 cocker spaniel bites and 19 menacing incidents to the Seattle Animal Shelter. None of those were reported last year.
I’ve never seen a cocker spaniel do anything but piss on a rug. I thought that was all they were good at.
This could have been a doggie darwinism story real easy.
parsy, who has had a pit or two.
My Dad was right they are dumb dogs
That's it? No bite-by-bite report? I was hoping to read that the Spaniel acquitted himself respectably in the skirmish.
What you say is true.
But they're VERY good at pissing on rugs. It's a talent.
Or so I'm told...
Just a guess, but since the headline wasn’t ‘pit mauls cocker spaniel’, the pit probably didn’t fight back. Yes, it does happen.
Ban Joe Cocker!
Uh...no, wait...that makes no sense.
Ban Pit Cockers!
I bet Joe Cocker woulda fought back.
My guess is never got started in the first place. The Cocker probably made a bunch of noise and the Pit looked at it as if it were insane.
Cocker Spainiels are pretty but as long as I can remember they have had a bit of a reputation as mean dogs. Not as bad as Chows or Pit Bulls but still one of the worst to bite.
The meanest dog I ever met that wasn’t in the pound waiting to be put down was a cocker spaniel. It was my cousin’s dog when we were kids, and he was so crazy and mean that he wasn’t allowed near anyone who wasn’t in his immediate family. By the time he was older, he spent all of his time outside, because he was vicious. That was a scary dog.
One scream like he does near the end of “With a Little Help From My Friends” would’ve made both dogs put their tails between their legs and whimper.
you've finally found a breed of dog I don't like.
As opposed to the differential equations solved by your breed of choice? I've never had much contact with cocker spaniels, but my king charles spanial, while no genius, attracts women like no animal you've ever seen. If that isn't a useful skill for a dog, I don't know what is.
Mine are the rugs. LOL They are constantly underfoot. When I sit down they lay on my feet, nice in the winter, less so in summer.
No doubt. I had a Newfoundland a couple decades that possessed that same skill. All he did was swim, sleep, and attract babes. ...and he knew he was good at it.
My sister-in-law has one of those yappy bastuges. I friggin hate the thing. We tried putting it out back with the real dogs (German Shepard and Chocolate Lab) but it tried that badass crap with the Lab.
The Lab just grabbed it around the neck and proceeded to shake. Wife saved the little crappers life. We had to bring in the Lab one day and my idiot sister-in-law let her little beauty out with similar results inside. Wife again saved the bastage.
The little crapper tries to write checks his butt can’t cash.
