Just got the KINDLE reading tablet for Father's Day. I mentioned it to my wife and she bought it for me. Don't know if I want it. Can download newspapers, books etc.
Is anyone using it, or should I return it ($300 we don't have to spend right now)?
I saw a mom and daughter at our school fighting over it........do you travel a lot?

It’s an awesome device, but I’m not buying one until they offer some type of unlimited access service with a monthly fee instead of paying $10/book.
But I’m broke too, so that affects my opinion.

and I’m gonna get the DX, too..
I recommended it to some of my friends kids who are going off to college,kindle is trying to get a deal to download college books onto kindle at a reduced price..
Imagine having 20 college books on your kindle?
As a adult i would have no use for it,will not read books on internet..

I have one and love it. I had a large collection of ebooks that I converted to PDF and emailed to my “kindle” account and can now read these books all the time. I have also purchased a few books from Amazon (including Mark Levin’s latest and greatest).
It’s not the same as holding a book in your hand, turning pages, etc, but if you travel as lot (as I do) and commute by rail (as I do) and find yourself with a lot of downtime you will find yourself reaching for the Kindle.
One of the “hidden” features is an experimental web browser. That is it’s not exactly a Firefox or IE, but it allows you to read websites like FR as long as you are within the coverage area of the Sprint Whispernet (the network that Amazon uses for delivering books) you will have high speed internet for surfing FR. This feature alone makes the kindle worth it (In my opinion).
That being said, if money is tight you ultimately have to make the choice on whether a gadget is the right thing for you now.

A friend has it and loves it. You can adjust the print size which is great for tired or ‘old’ eyes.
She travelled to South America recently and put some good books in her Kindle.
The Kindle is fantastic! Don’t even think of sending it back.
You can get all sorts of books at the Amazon website - incidentally, the best selling download last week was Mark Levin’s book! - and there are also many free or nearly free books you can get at other sites. Books are easy to get and are download literally in seconds.
You can look up words while you’re reading and highlight passages you like and make a clipping file. You can also increase the text size if you have any visual problems at any point.
I love it! I have several books on it that I only read when I’m traveling, but even when I’m not traveling, I find it extremely comfortable to sit down and spend the evening with it. I have found that there’s less eyestrain with the Kindle than with a regular book.
The help screens are good and Amazon has nice website help, but there’s a book called the “Kindle Cookbook” that will explain a lot of things to you. It’s not very expensive and it’s available on the Amazon site, of course!
Upgrade your Kimb from the “le” model to the “er” model. It costs about $900 more but it’ll be worth it in the long run. :)

A friend of mine got one as a gift. I think it’s rip-off.
Got a Palm, Laptop,iphone,HTC Touch ? .. then you don’t need a Kindle.
My wife bought me on for my last Birthday. I who read maybe 2 books a year while on vacation have read 7 or 8 since last November. We have read some books silmultaneously. We love ours. Very easy to use.
Ever try to read a book while you are having lunch ? With the kindle lay it flat on a taqble and tap it with one finger to page advance.
I also have an iPod touch and using the Amazon Kindle app I can read the same book on my iPod and sync the last page read between the two devices. Very cool.
The Kindle is easy to read: you can adjust the type size to suit your eyes, and when you click on a book, it picks up right where you left off. You can skip around as much as you like and never loose your place. When you have an itch for something new, it connects directly with Amazon wirelessly for free, and lets you browse to your heart's content. When you find something you'd like, click it, your account is billed, and your new book is downloaded within a minute. This is the way of the future.

They really like it - it helps if you like books and newspapers - that’s really what the appeal is. The screen as you’ve seen is a non-backlit paper white, which is supposed to mimic reading the pages of a book.
One pretty neat feature. If you like the limited assortment of websites which are built in - it’s free websurfing.
But the number of participating webpages are limited I think.
I’ll go way out on a limb here and guess, more liberals have them than conservatives?
But I don’t know that. Just seems sort of a “bookstore and paperstand” market to this poster.
