Coming up in a few minutes, Loren Maazel will conduct his final concert with the New York Philharmonic.

He will be leading the orchestra in Gustav Mahler's monumental 8th symphony - the "Symphony of a Thousand"

Wow. Just thinking about the 8th sends chill down my spine. Monumental, indeed.

My old Columbia pressing of Solti and the Chicago Symphony is one of he best I’ve ever heard.

Gustav Mahler was a late romantic regardless of a troubled life and Loren Maazel composed an opera based on George Orwell's 1984.
I found it an interesting contrast of today's times.
Truly a mystical and ethereal symphony, thank you for the ping.
