I am constantly seeing examples of Freepers getting "flamed" for "duplicate posting". Sermo.com has some sort of filter that automatically checks your post for duplicates. Mods please take note maybe this will help

would probably require some extensive database modifications. aka expensivePerhaps, but I'm not so sure. Practically every site on the internet offers search ability that goes beyond just the title of the article. The indexing technology is ubiquitous. I've often wondered why a great site like FR is so primitive when it comes to searching. The only real way to search content here is Google or some other external engine. Seems kind of strange, but I don't doubt there is a good explanation for it.

Gotta be one in every crowd :)

There is a perfectly good feature already available - performing a search on a keyword from the title before posting.

I *just* posted an article I was reading in our local rag. When I went online to retreive the story, it was under a different headline. ( on the paper’s web page)
What’s a poster to do?

Since most of us are not able to watch the thread constantly I prefer an article to reappear some hours later.
If I have already seen and/or participated I simply move on by.

I couldn't agree more. duplicate posts within 30 minutes of each other are a nuisance at times, but a duplicate post several hours later should not be considered a problem except by those who have nothing else to do but spend all of their waking hours on FR.
It's like all those TV channels I don't watch. If I've seen the show or am not interested, I watch something else.

I am posting from Asia.
Sometimes, after writing my reply, and after clicking on the “post” button, nothing at all happens that I can tell. The posting page remains on the screen. I look down at the connection icon, and it looks as though no data is being passed.
So, I click “post” again, and THEN I discover that it had posted the first time as well, with NO IDICATION whatsoever on my screen that the first one went through.
Hence, double post.
