You know, I still don’t understand the context in which Rep. Buyer stated this. I searched for articles about this on Free Republic in order to find out more, but couldn’t find any so I just posted it because I thought it was a funny comment, of sorts.

I had a friend that spent time in the Indiana prison system.....they smoke lettuce, heck they smoke peas and anything else that will dry.

if he does not shut up we’ll end up paying twenty-six bucks a head for lettuce...

In the 60’s there were cigarettes made from lettuce. They never caught on.

I remember that. They sucked. Smokers will try anything once.
I know, I was one. Smoke free since 1990.

He said the rational for FDA control was the smoke itself. Based on this, his point was the feds could expand control into ANYTHING that burns. Burning leaves in your backyard, burning wood in a wood stove, etc.

I have no wrath. I love the smell fresh cigarettes and cigars.
I just don’t smoke because of health reasons.

Let me make that a little clearer before another cute comment appears.
When I happen to go by someone smoking, not setting by someone who always smokes. Got it?
