Don Imus apologized. Mel Gibson apologized. So did Michael Richards and the Greaseman (didn't do much good). Politicians do it all the time. Shock jocks, actors and athletes do. Even Bill O'Reilly has done it. So why can't David Letterman bring himself to apologize? In another one of those delicious, you-know-you-love-it-even-as-you-roll-your-eyes media flaps, Letterman has been fending off an aggrieved Sarah Palin after she took offense at several of his late-night cracks.
Palin didn't rise to the bait when Letterman derided the Alaska governor's "slutty flight attendant look" on Monday's show. But she did object when Letterman, satirizing the Palin family's visit to New York and a Yankees game, said: "There was one awkward moment during the seventh inning stretch. Her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."

Bristol or Willow: Did he go too far?
A pair of losers only a teenager or a stoner could enjoy, both use shock jokes nothing good about them.
He should get another heart attack...
or like Wanda Sykes would put it "I hope his heart fails."/cue Obama laughing
I don’t get it. I was brought up to apologize the instant I make a mistake, take my lumps like a man and get over it. It isn’t particularly painful and in a week everything is forgotten.
What’s with this Letterman guy? He can only be doing this because it’s good publicity for him. I can’t see any other reason for not apologizing when an apology is clearly in order. What a cynical game!
Because the liberal establishment and their political masters put pressure on him not to back down. The whole point is to derail Palin's ambitions for 2012.

That being the case, the obvious ploy would be to run Sarah Palin as a stalking horse, and then put somebody like Ollie North for the 2012 candidate instead, with Sarah as running mate.
Unbelievable. These libs are delusional.
"Poor Mitt Romney," he adds. "He's probably wondering, 'Where do I get some of this?' "
Ha.
With respect, the obvious ploy is “never let the Left choose your candidate”.
The Left hates Palin and will hate her 24/7 for years, just as they hated Reagan and Thatcher. There will never be a letup. For - why would they stop, if it makes us change our candidates?
Indeed.
Watched Letterman once right after Johnny Carsen retired. Totally tasteless,not-funny, and absolutely no class. Do NOT watch his show-total waste of time.
...”He can only be doing this because its good publicity for him”...
Many people see Letterman as a hack for the left in America.
Liberals rarely—IF EVER—apologize for bashing conservatives.
Remember that jerkface Al Gore and his “extra chromosome” comment?
Remember Hussein and his “Special Olympics” comment? Hussein never apologized. His press office issued a statement.
Remember Robert Byrd using the N word in a tv interview with Tony Snow? His office issued a statement.
ON THE RARE OCCASIONS when liberals say they are sorry and were wrong, YOU MAY NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER bring it up again. They do not lose their positions, they do not give up power, they do not have any material, immediate consequences for their words or actions. Chappaquidick.
Liberals: the biggest haters and hypocrites on the planet.
Yes, they are delusional. We will see but I believe Letterman’s ruthlessness toward those children and to the flight attendants has finally struck a nerve in the female world out here. Two very powerful bonding issues with most women are those of pedophilia and rape. He made light of both through his words. He thinks he can say and do anything to Sarah Palin and get away with it. He and his media cohorts on the left just might have shifted those sands a bit. The world had better draw a line because people who get away with this stuff only get worse.
It's the height of absurd to pontificate that Letterman would, ". . . give it to everyone equally."
It would be a rapid smack-down if he took even one of the satire opportunities that Obama has offered, and Letterman knows it. Any expectation that there is an equality in Letterman's "humor" is delusional.
Not a political strategist, but this appears to be giving Letterman the thing he craves -- attention. It seems it might have been better if Mrs. Palin had simply responded:
Letterman's writers often provide the show with tasteless or inane comments targeted for low-brow laughs. It is not worthwhile to ascribe any importance to what is said, or to attach any significance to such ramblings.
End of story. Case closed. Move along, nothing to see here.
Sure calling someone nappy haired is much more offensive than statutory rape /Sarc>
