Police Shoot Pit Bull, Save Collie In Dog Fight
Posted: 5:14 pm EDT May 31, 2009
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Police had to taser a pit bull twice before shooting it to end a vicious dog attack in Washington County.
The pit bull attacked another dog on Broad Street in the City of Washington.
"I had to get that dog off him. He's all tied up and I didn't want my dog dead."
Donald Jacobs and his wife Vicky said their one-year-old collie named Buddy was attacked by a neighbor's pit bull as they sat outside their house around 11 p.m. Saturday.
"I was hitting the pit bull on the head and everything else, trying to get him off," said Donald Jacobs.
Vicky Jacobs said, "I was petrified. I was horrified- all the words you can think. That was it. I was scared."
As Donald Jacobs tried to get the pit bull off Buddy, his wife called Washington police.
When Officer Matthew Karlowski arrived, he found Donald Jacobs tangled up in a leash still trying to pull the pit bull away.
Karlowski said he used his taser on the dog twice but the pit bull kept getting up. The officer then drew his gun and fired.
"Donald was clear along with his dog and I had to use one shot to put the dog down," said Karlowski.
An animal control officer removed the pit bull.
Karlowski said, "The dog was very vicious and the dog appeared to be on a frenzy."
Donald Jacobs plans to take Buddy to a veterinarian on Monday but the dog is expected to be OK.
But,,,I need a bullet that opens fast in this neighborhood.
I've killed 4 hawgs with 240gr. handloads(HOT)with this .44.
(largest 250lbs.)
I trust it as a close range killer when my life is on
the line,,,
Close range here ya’ know...;0)
IMHO it’s mo’people and mo’news and mo’dawgs,,,
Way back when I was a kid they just got shot,,,
And dropped in the trash-can...
Why is the breed called “Pit Bull”? Just curious...
Why is the breed called Pit Bull? Just curious...Because The Marines took the term "Devil Dogs" first.
EXCELLENT POINTS.
Though some dog breeds seem to have more individuals which may tend more toward aggressive, uncontrolled, unexpected stuff than others.
Bully(fighting) dogs fought in pits. Some, like English Bull dogs, were bred for bull & bear baiting. Others, like English Bull Terriers, were bred for street fighting. Pit Bull is a loose association of dogs including the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and any random, smooth coated dog between 20 and 150 pounds that scares someone.
HUH?
This guy is on to take his wounded dog to the vet on Monday? Don’t they have Animal Emergency Hospitals is this backward place?
Actually Sherlocke. I have a wife and 5 kids and am faithful which admittedly is an accomplishment. I have a profile which says that...have had for 10 years.
I know Porterville is an Hispanic female to some degree because she has been public about it from the amensty war here in which we were on different sides of the fence. I have no idea if she is hot or not but in all fairness no one should assume she is not fair.
Hey, I was just playing around. Didn’t mean to offend.
You wrote ***Oh my God!! Pit Bulls!! Run for the hills** Don’t run for the hills, run for your gun..if you don’t already carry..
Chet doesn’t have blood on his hands, but all the pit owners do...
I fully support wiping put bulls off the face of the earth, wouldn’t shed a tear. Neither would all the children attacked nor those who are going to be in the future.
LOL now that is funny.......
cute picture Joe, but I have seen some people hug tigers the same way, that is until the tiger had other plans...:O)
I am not really a fan of Shelties, I had a next door neighbor with two and they sure were yappers...but one day her kids had the pair in the front yard and the neighbor on the other side of their house was in her front yard. The dogs attach her and she got bitten on her stomach...the kids and the dogs were not disciplined. If they were pits, she would have been dead... Another time, my son was getting out of his car and one came for him, he drop kicked it back on to their lawn..A pit would have been more of a problem for him...another time one of my other son’s had to jump on the hood of his car to avoid getting bitten...some people should not have dogs...(sigh)
I’ve not had good child interaction with either a Sheltie or a Collie. But, they are beautiful dogs. Mine is often mistaken for a Collie (which is silly, really).
I agree they are beautiful dogs...but how do you deal with all that hair....I have a lab and when she sheds it drives me nut...I take her to the groomer and have her shaved. (well, 1/4 is left on ) :O)
it was a joke granny...I have known Chet a while and was just teasing
btw...you do not speak for all pit bull owners..
