Being down here, in the heat, my tomatoes are on the south side of the house until we are in the 90’s. Then we’re on the east side until we reach the 100’s. Once we get there, the plants are in full shade 24/7, in my carport.
Tomatoes (other than Heatwave) are DORMANT above 86 degrees.
They won’t ripen, pollinate, fill out or anything else.
In this climate, those things happen at NIGHT.

Well now, ten minutes on the gardening thread and I know more about tomatoes than I did. Thanks for the tip. We don’t get a lot of 100’s here and the short growing season limits varieties somewhat, so anything that will assist in their ripening is a big help.
tomatoes are dormant above 86 degrees? Wow. I didn’t know that - all types of tomatoes? Here in Nashville, Tn it is above 86 most of the time in summer.
I didn't know that! I guess that's a good reason to have tomatoes in pots. I've got a lot of shade in my back yard and I've been moving them as I watch the shade/sun and determine what the best spots are for them.
So, Daisyjane69...my tomato that I planned on putting in a pot in the greenhouse won’t do anything? I can still find a place outside. We in the NW always have a struggle to get tomatoes to ripen...plus I have a little altitude and Douglas fir shade to deal with.
