I hope all of you will stop by.

This is typically a low volume ping list. Once a week for the thread and every once in a while for other FR threads posted that might be of interest.

If you would like to be added to or removed from the list please let me know by FreepMail or by posting to me.

Tomato and pepper planting this weekend. Here , in CNY, it’s not wise to plant much before traditional Memorial Day.

Didn’t know this list existed and don’t know how to be added to the ping list, but please count me in. Not much gardening in MA this weekend as we’ve had several inches of rain and I can see the weeds growing. Any Hosta fans out there?

How do I know gardening season is in full swing? I step out the door early in the morning and the first breath I take is “essence” of a compost bin heating. Wooooo baby .... Nothing says gardening better. (need to cut back a little on the green materials if I want neighbors)

Thanks for the ping. We have been eating fresh tomatoes here in Central TX for the past two weeks. We have over 70 plants and most are loaded with fruit.

We have several squash plants and also a few golden zucchini plants. We are picking fresh squash almost daily now.

Beets are almost ready to harvest. Jalapeno peppers are about half grown. The cucumber plants are growing rapidly and I expect we should see flowers within a week or two.

Does anyone know what makes a healthy tomato plant suddenly wilt on half its branches?

All my other maters are doing fine, with strong blossoms or little maters, but one plant suddenly wilted on one side, has the tensile strength of a wet paper twel.

Thanks,

Ed

thanks for the ping!

Our tomatoes survived the freeze we had two weeks ago (thanks to mr sneakers ingenuity!). We have a very small area to plant, but we’re trying the “three sisters” method of planting corn, beans and squash. Put in the corn yesterday. Also, we are going to have LOTS of snowpeas, and the regular peas are doing well also. I have cabbages growing in a weird place next to our basement steps, but what the hey! It’s working so far! We have been enjoying onions already and our (few) strawberries are turning red. This raised gardening is pretty much a first try for us. Next year we’ll plan ahead and be more organized.
Today we plant beans, beets and leaf lettuce.
