CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- Two sheriff's deputies, an 8-year-old girl and her father are recovering after being shot by a man who was angry over the death of his dog.
The gunfire started late Wednesday night in a community northwest of Lenoir on Grandin Road near N.C. 18.
Residents in the neighborhood say Rolland Younce shot his neighbor Tony Moore and Moore's 8-year-old daughter Ashley.
"It was, from what I understand, over a pit bull dog," one neighbor told NewsChannel 36.
Younce was allegedly angry because Moore had shot and killed his dog. Neighbors say Moore shot the dog because it killed his cat.
Two Caldwell County deputies were shot when they responded to the scene. Younce was killed in an exchange of gunfire with deputies. His body was found a short distance from his home.
Ashley Moore was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem due to the seriousness of her injuries. Her father was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The Moore family has asked the hospitals to withhold information on their conditions.
The two deputies -- Marty Robbins and Thomas McManus -- are expected to be OK.
McManus was treated for a gunshot wound to his forearm. He was released from a hospital late Thursday morning.
Robbins remains in stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center. Caldwell County deputies say Robbins was shot in the arm and leg.
The shooting shocked neighbors, but many of the residents told NewsChannel 36 that a battle had been brewing between the two men for some time.
"To me I think it's a little childish," one neighbor said. "The guy should have done something to try to keep the dog in his own yard."
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation. Officers say Animal Control removed a dead pit bull from Younce's property. A Chihuahua, which was not harmed, was also taken from the property.
You got something against proper use of the apostrophe?
LOL is always better in caps...
Not at all, however I do love typos and people that call your attention to same said such typo.
I don’t know...was he buried with the Big Iron or a White Sport Coat?
Yea, me too. But, the funniest thing on FR is watching folks that fall for satire and then get really upset that they fell for it because the poster didn't put (satire) in the title. Hilarious!
Y’es. Wan’na ma’ke some’thi’ng of it’?
;^)
Maybe the Chihuahua killed the Pit Bull.
The Chihuahua sanctioned both the Pit Bull and the Pit Bull's owner in its own diabolical way...maybe that Chihuahua's name was Hemlock...
The MSM launched an all out attack against pit bulls several years ago too. Now its back after months of “evil pit bull” stories. Evidently the dog killed the neighbors cat and the cat owner killed the guys dog?
Durn good thing [Chihuahuas] don't weigh over 100 lbs.!
No doubt about that!
Don’t know about that. Maybe the Dingo ate your baby.
So, you guys are saying the dog killed the cat because it ate the mouse? Well then why did the cat eat the mouse?
I’ll bet it has something to do with cheese.
Dont know about that. Maybe the Dingo ate your baby.
And fiancé, too...
But, it’s my FAVORITE puncuation mark. It’s like... a comma that drinks Red Bull!
Cheese!!!
LMAO!
So true.........
Kinda like the folks that apparently have nothing better to do than to note each thread as it is posted to check if it has already been posted. Like they must never sleep, you know, and like then to triumphantly post to same said such people that they have wasted precious bandwidth and the JR is gonna get them. How is it that these people exist, do they really not have a life? I mean who has the time to check search or to make sure that an article has never been posted? I mean have they no sense of reality? Oh did I mention that I also hate posters than don't believe in paragraphs?
It is interesting that the responding deputies didn’t shoot the chihuahua, but then they had to shoot a man so it wasn’t necessary to shoot the doglet.
Why just one?
