Jon & Kate's Crappy Marriage is Ratings Gold (beats season finale of Lost in the ratings)

9.8 million people spent 1 hour of their lives watching Jon & Beaverhead Plus 8 last night. This was easily TLC's most watch episode ever. Jon & Kate even beat the Lost season finale in the ratings. That has to hurt. Sadly, I was not among the 9.8 million suckahs who watched, because I went to bed at like 8 o'clock. I wanted to make sure I was fully coherent when I watched, so that I could take precise notes. Kate is the master at this and she deserves my undivided attention. I watched a bunch of old episodes this past weekend and it really is like a master class in how to be a mega b*tch. The reviews from the critics confirm this.

UsWeekly compiled a few:

On Kate saying her life in the media spotlight is so hard: "Is it really, Kate? Tell that to a family in which the breadwinner has just lost her or his job, you silly, self-absorbed fool." - Baltimore Sun

On Kate saying the paparazzi following them is creepy: "What's creepy is having your children followed around by a camera crew. Any camera crew. Period. It's exploitation, whatever cutesy name you want to give it." New Jersey's Star Ledger

On Kate saying she's alone 6 times when Jon goes away for the weekend: "You just wanted to say, 'We get it! You feel you're the Wronged Woman! Aren't you savvy enough by now to know you're not winning us over?' This was especially true when she noted that 'all of a sudden, your kids are calling you your babysitter's name.' I could almost hear millions of viewers shouting, 'So stay home!'" - Entertainment Weekly

Beautiful, right?

Just from watching a few clips online, it looks like an episode of Faces of Death. Seriously, it's like witnessing their marriage get hit by a train in slow motion. They should be speaking to a therapist not a producer.

My favorite part has to be when the producers asks them what the future holds. Kate says, "I'm here" and Jon says "I'm here....for the kids." I expected the rabid beaver on Kate's head to pounce on Jon's crotch and bite into it. Obviously, when Kate pulled his nuts out she missed some of the root, because it seems like they are starting to grow back.

I just did. They’re celebrity morons, and she’s a shrew.

He is so loving towards the children. And they love him.

Kate is never seen hugging, praising, or otherwise enjoying the children.

You should judge too, EVERYBODY should judge. One of the problems our society has these is we’ve all become so afraid to offend we’re no longer willing to speak truth. When you see somebody being an idiot you should say “that’s stupid”, this is especially true when the idiot in question is a celebrity, they sought fame they WANTED the attention, might as well give it to them.

No. Just practical. Anything to get away from her nagging.

"I do! I love Jon and Kate plus 8, been watching since day one..."

NGZ, you are the last freeper that I would have suspected to be a soap fan!

I knew nothing about this show even after I watched Steve Thomas (This Old House Fame) do a “green” upgrade to “Kate's house”. It was not until later that I was made aware of their “reality” show. My impression of Kate was that she is a control freak with intimacy issues who REALY enjoys being on camera with a little drama queen mixed in. She was @itch to Steve and the rest of the crew. How can you be a @itch to Steve he is a nice guy and non-threatening? IMHO she needs a serious attitude adjustment and the hubby does not have the stones to get her under control. I told Mrs. Mad that the marriage would not last another year and that was in late January 2009. No surprises here.

I have watched this show occasionally with fascination. Kate is a type A personality. It’s been interesting to watch her try to control such a gang of toddlers. I must admit though that it has been painful to watch. It seems to me that Jon and Kate love each other, but never imagined their life would end up like this. Kate is a tartar. Jon is easy-going and lovable. They have shouldered a huge responsibility. Often when one parent refuses to be the co-disciplinarian, it forces the other to be even more polarized and punitive. Kate may be over-parenting because Jon is not parenting. I doubt she is happy doing it, but feels it must be done.

My husband cannot stand Kate and predicts they will be divorced soon. He’s said it from day one. He’s probably right. Men need to be admired, and I don’t get the sense that Kate admires Jon these days.

My husband can’t even be in the room when the show is on, so I would imagine Jon is struggling. It’s not just a tv show for him. Kate loves Jon and the kids, but she has a lot of “shoulds” in her head. Her controlling perfectionism may destroy this family.

That’s my two-bit psychoanalysis; for what it’s worth!

I watched the “Thousand Mile Stare” slowly develop on Jon’s face as I watched (off and on) the marathon of past seasons.

And the new episode, the guy is totally beaten down. Neither of them have real jobs so I’m sure they’ll suck it up and soldier on. If not, they can do the other reality shows: Divorce Court, Celebrity Rehab, Intervention, Wife Swap, etc...

The real losers are the kids. Camera crews following kids around can’t be a good thing, in my humble opinion.

There are only a few shows I watch, and that is one of them. I also love Little People Big World and 18 & Counting!

That defeats the purpose. Of course the real punchline here is that by saying we shouldn’t judge really what you’re doing is judging everybody else.

No, I said we shouldn’t judge. You said we should. I said then judge for me. What’s the problem?

Unlike you, I am just observing what I have seen since day one of their show.

You said...."Oh hell no, you couldn’t pay me to watch this show, the commercials are painful enough."

Just like those who listen to soundbites of Rush and judge what he says, instead of listening to the actual show.

The problem is by refusing to judge you’re becoming part of the problem of a society that is no longer willing to heap shame upon those that deserve it. Shame and ridicule used to be how a society enforced most of its rules, but the “don’t judge” crowd took over somewhere along the lines; and now celebrity seeking shrews get to belittle their husband on TV for 9.8 million viewers.

Of course the difference is the Rush soundbites are picked by his opponents to make him look bad, the Jon and Kate commercials are picked by the network to make them look good. And really their fans, like you, say stuff that supports every impression I get from the commercials. You’ve admitted in this thread that she bullies and guilts him into things like last night’s “confession” episode and quitting his job.

Don’t shout, you’re not Kate and I’m not Jon so that crap won’t work on me. And your own statements have proven everything I’ve said to be true. Your impression of their relationship from watching every episode is exactly the same as mine from just watching the commercials. The only difference is you don’t want to judge them, and I think we all should be judging not just them but everybody like them we encounter, in the real world or on TV.

If what you just said were true, you would not be judging them so harshly. You judge them ONLY by the commercials you have seen. And the way you judge them, obviously the commercials you've watched DOES NOT make them look good.
