Okay, I figure I would start a little gun thread. Here's the deal you your arsenal consists of the following weapon systems:

Bolt action rifle
Semi-auto rifle
Shotgun
Small calibur rifle
Semi-auto handgun
Revolver handgun

Now choose the weapon for each based on the following criteria; usability, affordability (including ammunition) and practicality

It's not a list of what you have per se. It's just what you would put on that list based on the criteria.

I feel the same way but "they" know what I have anyway due to me purchasing my stuff in the peoples "republik" of illinois.

I’ve heard from time to time that the SKS is unreliable with detachable mags. Have you had any problems?

I had my mags for a while and at the start made minor filing adjustments to them. Never had a problem after filing them to proper tolerances. I had a paratrooper model set up with a folding polymer stock and compensator. Very accurate at 200 and under yards. [I can’t see the milk jugs out past 200 yards.]

Get yer lever-action and revolver in the same caliber to reduce the need for several different types of ammo.

I have (until the accident) a Marlin 1894 and a S&W 629 both chambered for .44 Spl & .44 Mag.

A worthy idea, thanks all the same, but I'll be keepin the .45/70. We've got those big hairy pigs roaming around the berry patches up here (MT), not to mention the odd moose or two... And I can't run or climb trees no more. A gent better be careful with a .44 mag around a griz, or you're just libel to piss him off.

Course I could go the other way around, and get me one of these here Magnum Research BFR .45/70 revolvers, but it kinda defeats the purpose if I've gotta go find my arm every time I touch 'er off... :D

[...] is easily capable of producing well over 2,000 ft·lbf (2,700 J) of energy, double the power of most .44 Magnum loadings, and a Taylor KO Factor as high as 40 with some loads. -Wikipedia .45-70 (revolver section)

Oof!

I might disagree somewhat with you on Makes and Models, but I completely agree with you on types of weapons and calibers.

Would only add that everyone needs a rimfire rifle and pistol.

Here, Suzanne: feast your eyes and drool. Wilson can custom build any .45 you might like, with any features you wish, all from the best components available in the world, and created as a work of art by some of the best gunsmiths in the United States.

You may not take a first at Camp Perry, but you’ll have a wonderful time and be certain you have the best handgun in the world.

Jack!

I showed my darling husband these sites and he began to plan his .45 (while drooling profusely) I politely reminded him, It’s my turn for a new gun.... :)

The classic is perfect. I am trying out a Colt 1911 at league this weekend; I am so excited to start practicing for Perry!

As for a first at Perry, I can tell you I will do my best and keep competing till I get there! :)

Thank you for the advice!

Suzanne
