FRANKFORD - May 24, 2009 (WPVI) -- A woman was mauled by a pit bull inside her home this morning.
Police were called to the 4700 block of Worth Street in Philadelphia's Frankford section just before 4:00.
The 43-year-old homeowner said she had been attacked by her daughter's pit bull and the dog was blocking their escape from the upstairs of the home.
. . .
The victim told police the mauling happened when she tried to break up a fight between the pit bull and another dog. She also said the pit bull was under her care because it had bitten one of her daughter's neighbors.
She says her daughter was trying to find the dog a new home.

Oh my, this little post of mine brought out all the Dog of Peace lovers......LOL
Those laws that you speak of are an abomination. And definitely an infringement of our freedoms.. The government should never be granted the powers you speak of. Not even when it comes to pits...The only thing to do besides taking it to court is to make sure the people know the names of those dumb a$$ politicians and vote them out..
Pit Bull mauled in Frankford by Woman:
Surely you can a picture of a cute pitty to post..or are they all devoid of cuteness.....
Pitt bulls were bred to fight to the death. Don't tell me they were just bred to fight other animals not people, because pointers will point anything, terriers will go after anything, herding dogs will herd children, lap dogs will pee on the sofa instead of just sitting there.
Pitt bulls are extremely powerful and tenacious and they can be very dangerous to humans. That is the problem.
So is my ex wife, whats your point?
She is your EX wife, I think you get my point.
My opinion (worth everything you pay for it!) is that pit bulls are more dangerous than a similarly-sized dog of a more gentle breed. They are massive, powerful, and have the terrier drive. I think that an unintended consequence of being bred for gameness created a certain reluctance to give themselves over whole-heartedly to human beings.
Now that they are fashionable dogs, clueless people buy them and expect them to be happy with the normal sort of human-dog interaction that most dogs thrive on. A pit bull will get bored, and even though it may adore its owner and never exhibit signs of aggression towards them, it will try to find a way to fulfill its instinctual urges.
Of course, all dogs do this. A retriever can fulfill himself playing fetch, a herding dog can chase cars...But there is nothing a pit bull can do by itself to approximate a bloody fight to the death, thats not going to result in tragedy.
The way to give a pit bull an outlet is to get him into weight pulling. It fulfills his need for battle. Its not hard to get into, and you dont have to compete, you just have to invest in some equipment and a few hours every night. Are alot of people willing to do this? No. They treat the dog like a chihuahua or a lab and then are shocked when he tears apart the neighbors cat, or dog, or child.
Too many pit bull apologists spend all their energy defending the breed as gentle, loveable little fuzzballs without acknowledging that this is NOT a backyard breed, not a dog for the sedentary, or irresponsible, and not a dog to be taken lightly.
I don't read all your pit bull threads. But then, I don't read every thread by every other poster who has a particular interest either.
Anyway, keep them coming. They serve a good purpose.
By George I think you’ve got it! ;0)
Your instincts are right on. They've been specifically BRED for that purpose. They've been BRED to attack and savage other dogs.
For generations the nastier, stronger, and more aggressive males have been selected out and bred with other nastier, stronger, and more aggressive females. Only a fool or someone locked in denial would think that they've been bred to produce a cuddly, long-suffering, and submissive animal.
Did you read the whole thing?
you're right...some of them you gotta keep em separated
YOu must be bored to go fishing. Don’t use my comments out of context, just because the words say what you want them to. What are you, CNN?
From your lips to the voters ears. Sadly it appears that the majority if people are asleep at the wheel on this (and so many other) issues. We tried very hard to keep this from passing. We had ONE county commissioner who voted no.
I don’t tolerate dog aggression in my goldens anymore, so now, if I witnessed a fight it would be someone else’s dog. When out with my dogs I keep them on short leash and my eye out of dogs that might start trouble.
I always like to know to whom it is that I’m replying, before I post anything.
Your “about” page says you have nothing to hide - so I took you at your word and found the quote in question only a few lines down from the top.
I have no great fondness for Chet99, or his attitude toward certain dog breeds, but as Voltaire said (paraphrasing) “I will defend to the death his right to say it.”
Your post expressed ire at what you referred to as “pollution” and implied that his postings were of less worth somehow because of a recent sign-up date. As far as I can tell, Chet posts his articles to “General/Chat” so they can be easily avoided simply by setting your preferences to exclude that category.
The foolishness of judging the worth of a FReeper’s comments by his sign-up date should be obvious, but your comment also indicated that this was “our forum.” (Didn’t have to fish for that one.) So what’s the cut-off date to be a real member? A week after you signed up?
As I stated in a subsequent post, if you really want to kill Chet’s threads, all you have to do is not respond.
Something tells me there’s not much chance of that.
It’s either that or a Boxer mix.
[not that anyone ever bothers to make the distinction because the lack of sensationalism defeats The Great Purpose]
“Ignorance abounds”
Abundantly and willfully.
