In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
calamari \kah-luh-MAHR-ee\ noun
squid used as food
Example sentence:
Ophelia tried fried calamari for the first time from a small seafood shack near the beach.
Did you know?
The word "calamari" was borrowed into English from 17th-century Italian, where it functioned as the plural of "calamaro" or "calamaio." The Italian word, in turn, comes from the Medieval Latin noun "calamarium," meaning "ink pot" or "pen case," and can be ultimately traced back to Latin "calamus," meaning "reed pen." The transition from pens and ink to squid is not surprising, given the inky substance that a squid ejects and the long tapered shape of the squid's body. English speakers have also adopted "calamus" itself as a word referring to both a reed pen and to a number of plants.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Yeah but you haven’t seen the people in my area.....some are really ugly - what it they got ugly after eating there for 50 years? I’m not willing to take the chance...
You took that risk when you moved back to Texas. ;-)
You forget I’ve seen the women in PA.... I was willing to take the risk.
She’s the Emperor’s New Clothes.
Wish I could say something about calamari, but alas, it will never touch my lips. Not kosher.
Great series. Better ending. Hope you’ll jump on our bandwagon for the next series. Wow.
Holy cow - have you been cryogenically frozen somewhere for a few years??????
Are yinz old enough to remember it?
LOL! I don't think I've heard that song since I graduated in HS way back in '70.
The Arondies were only a local group, but I was totally unaware of that.
Some DJ in the 'Burgh took a liking to them, so as far as I was concerned, it was just another national hit on the radio.
And I can remember dancing to that song at just about every HS/teen dance I ever went to.
LOL! I don't even remember the name "Arondies"... it seems like EVERY wannabe rock group that was playing in 'Burgh HS gyms was required to play that song at least 5 times a night!
It was especially popular with the HS graduating class ahead of me: the Class of '69.
