The king of Stonehenge: Were artefacts at ancient chief's burial site Britain's first Crown Jewels?
dailymail ^ | 12th May 2009 | Paul Harris

He was a giant of a man, a chieftain who ruled with a royal sceptre and a warrior's axe. When they laid him to rest they dressed him in his finest regalia and placed his weapons at his side. Then they turned his face towards the setting sun and sealed him in a burial mound that would keep him safe for the next 4,000 years. In his grave were some of the most exquisitely fashioned artefacts of the Bronze Age, intricately crafted to honour the status of a figure who bore them in life in death. For this may have been the last resting place of the King of Stonehenge - and the treasures that are effectively Britain's first Crown Jewels. Now the entire hoard, recovered from the richest and most important Bronze Age grave on Salisbury Plain, is set to go on permanent display. But 21st-century Britain has thrown up a problem that never troubled ancient man. The artefacts are so rare that they have been kept in a bank vault for the past three decades because they are too precious to put on show without extensive security. So today the Wiltshire Heritage Museum at Devizes is announcing a £500,000 appeal to fund a secure gallery.

Perfect. That’s a scene no one, who ever saw the movie, could forget. Stunning when you first see it.

I don't know about “Smoke” since I've never watched NASCAR in my life, but I did google Tony Stewart to see who he was. I assume ‘smoke’ is his nic.

Yup

Once I picked up a small bronze souvenir Statue of Liberty when visiting my sister in NYC

I "planted" it in one of her flower pots near a window

That is so “YOU”, it’s hilarious!! Too bad you didn’t have a little ‘ape-man’ to go with it. Bet she laughed.

[charity foundation as many NASCAR drivers do]

I do recall reading about the NASCAR driver, that your niece likes, doing big charity things. Naturally you would love those racecars!

Well, I studied the first picture after your comment. Then I kept studying your enlarged graphic, looking at the light blue area trying to make out a figure and seeing a couple of strange ‘indents’ in the Stonehenge rocks like a foot and a hand?????

My 22 inch monitor still didn’t ‘show me’ anything.

Still a good gag to pull on a classic or Sci-Fi movie buff

Slip it in an inside flower pot when visting them

Esp. if they do not have a green thumb

Nice post, potlatch.

I’ve been to Tulum.
Those ruins are amazing!

Have you been to Chichen Itza?
It’s now one of the seven wonders of the world.

http://www.chichenitza.com/

We enjoyed our visit there so much the first time that we returned before we had to leave Mexico.
There’s a lovely little city on the way to CI to have lunch called Villadolid.

They even had an internet cafe. ;o)

Neat that we've both walked around Tulum! Haven't been to Chichen Itza. Went to Tulum from a cruise to Cozumel. I've traveled extensively by car in Mexico but those safe times are long gone.

Gotta go cook. Good to ‘see’ you!

I wouldn’t drive there now, either!
I think you can take a tour bus from Cancun.

Enjoy your supper!
