LEON, N.Y. Police cracking down on rowdy Amish youths ticketed a teenager for having beer in his horse-drawn buggy when they pulled him over on a western New York road. They said the 17-year-old was charged with underage possession of alcohol after he was stopped by deputies late Monday night in the town of Leon, 40 miles south of Buffalo.
Detective Nathan Root said the teen admitted drinking beer, but passed a field sobriety test.

not sure but if the vehicle, or in this case a buggy, is on a road surface, would it matter if you’re pushing/pulling it or driving it? the horse is under power either way.. just hope it’s a good follower. ;-}

You are likely confusing the Instrument Panel with the dash board.

People have received a DUI citation while sleeping in their vehicle and when extracted from their recently arrived car in their garage.

You’ve got to nip this kind of activity in the bud! (Sorry, can I say “nip” in an Amish thread?) But (almost) seriously, would that we could get the Amish to vote...

Yeah, that’s what the horse said, but they gave him
a breath test anyway.

I guess the keys being out of the ignition wouldn’t help if you have witnesses or reasonable suspicion.

I was real surprised to see drinking and drug use in a documentary about Amish teens. It showed the kids when they reached the age where they had to choose between an Amish life or common life. There were Amish kids selling drugs to each other and having sex. I didn’t know they gave their kids so much freedom.
